Is it possible to import a song recorded on my workstation into biab and then adding instruments and also altering the key.I can import the song but all I can do is increase or decrease the speed Thanks Frankie

There are utilities that can do pitch shifting for you, but how much do you want to alter the key? If you try to do more than, say, two half-steps, the quality of the base song will suffer. And, certain instruments stand up better than others. I have never been able to pitch-shift an acoustic guitar well, for example.
Of course, I have to say that I have not used any audio editor with the Elastique algorithm BIAB now uses. Maybe things have changed.

Open in Realband and you can right-click on the waveform in the Tracks window to select the pitch shift/time stretch option.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Matt & Rharv,Im talking about raising it a semi tone without altering the speed.The reason why I would like it in biab is adding certain biab instruments to the song(if thats possible)Thanks Frankie

I understand what you want. Open it in RB and do as I described; transpose it up (pitch shift). Then use Track - Save track to file, and pick a different name so you still have the original. Then you can open the shifted file in BiaB or any other program. 
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

A half-step shift should work.

Frankie, do you have Real Band and are you familiar with it? You can import an audio or midi file and add up to 48 different tracks of Biab styles either midi or Real Tracks. You're not restricted to just one style like you would be in Biab. You can use a different style for each track and put more than one style on each track if you wanted to. Just to make sure you understand this, say you want to add a piano part to your already recorded song. Open the song in RB, select an empty track, pick a style, right click the track and pick either midi or RT then pick the part you want and hit generate. RB will create that one track only. You have to fill in the chord grid first with part markers if you need them. The possibilities are endless. Get into RB right now.

thats what I love about this forum the fantastic help you get.I want to thank Matt Rharv and Jazz for that help.Jazz I have got RB but Im more familiar with biab.I will look at all the things you say I should do.. thanks again frankie

Im back again.Rharv I did what you said..saved the file and then opened the file from RB into biab.The track played ok but all I could do with the track was increase or decrease the speed.Ive also noticed when it plays the black spacer that plays along moves before the song starts and I dont think its anything to do with my song.Im obviously missing something here,Thanks Frankie

1.styles in biab you mean 2.right click the track!!and hit generate!!..I can do this no problem when Im using it for creating songs in biab but how to transfer it to RB has got me flumoxed.cheers Frankie

I'm not sure why you are increasing/decreasing speed. Didn't you already pitch shift it in RB?
I thought you wanted to add parts in BiaB, so why are you trying to change the waveform there?
I work like Bob (Jazzmammal) does, once in RB, just stay there.
How I would do what you are wanting to do -
open wav in rb
right-click and pitch-shift up 1/2 step.
run it thru the acw to get the chords and tempo map
start generating new parts on empty tracks in RB
Select a style and generate midi or right-click and renerate realtracks.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

This song is obviously a stereo wav file.His best bet to get things lined up and pitch shifted would be to open it using the "Audio Chord Wizard".He'll get the chords sort of and the timing will line up and then a style of individual instruments can be added.Then use the pitch shift plugin.

Rharv sorry to have sort of misled you.Its not that I wanted to increase\decrease the track what I was trying to say it was the ONLY thing that would affect the track. I will again try out those things in RB..
John you are right its a stereo file.What i want to do is add some instruments to the track and I thought this could be dome in biab I will also try the things you say also.sorry if Ive been a bit of a pain with this but do appreciate the help Frankie
