Band-in-a-Box 2011 for Mac is here!

Band-in-a-Box 2011 for Macintosh is here, with over 50 new features and enhancements! We′ve made big improvements to the sounds of the RealTracks, so that they sound more natural over a much wider range of tempos with the élastique Pro V2 time stretching engine by zplane.development; not only do they sound better, the audio fidelity is improved, and RealTracks are now smaller - you can even shrink the size of your existing RealTracks by 70%. There's a new mixer window. And much more…

For a full list of the new features, click here http://www.pgmusic.com/bbmac.new.htm

If you want to order first time or upgrade, here is the order page. http://www.pgmusic.com/bbmac.packages.htm

If you want to hear demos of the 101 New RealTracks, click here and watch the videos for the new RealTracks, which are found in RealPaks (Jazz 5, Country 5 and Rock-Pop 5) http://www.pgmusic.com/realtracks.audvid.mac.htm

Thank God for BiaB - makes life worth living!

PS. New downloading works fine took just under an hour to get the new 2011, but where is the iPhone-app-support?

Is now the lead sheet window included and the wizzard? Can I record my vocal singing directly now? Can I add text now directly to the single notes?

So long,

I bought Biab 2010.5 for Mac just a few days ago, downloading all the megapak files.
Yesterday, when I by chance discovered that the 2011 version had come out, I also went into my download page and there found that biab 2011 was now available for me. That was of course good news though it could have been nice with a email as I might have missed out on this free update. Anyway, do I need to re-download any other files from the megapak - I ask as my download site expires today?
Thanks
John

John: Please contact support@pgmusic.com for a list of newer files to download.

mos: No, those features aren't present. There are Mac-Only features like the Mixer Window and WebDemo (demo of any style without changing your arrangement) that aren't present on the Windows version.

Why is there still no "check for update" ?

I love the new features in BiaB 20011.
The new tempo stretch algorithm is awesome!

I don't know if my use of BIAB is typical. I use it mainly as a practice tool to work on patterns, scales, and improvisation of jazz tunes for me and my students. Occasionally I use it to create solos for sight reading or to get new ideas.

I just have the basic set of RealTracks and RealDrums. Although the add-ons look and sound appealing, I cannot justify the expense at this time.

Because of this, I don't think that many of the new features in the BIAB 2011 update will be of much use to me.

Here are features I am most interested in: (forgive me if this smacks of a Mac vs Windows comparison, but I had BIAB Mac when it first came out and rarely used it, then recently got hooked with BIAB 2008 Windows, and jumped back on-board with BIAB 2010 Mac)

I want to see the chorus # while its playing

I would like the display of measures per line to be variable to account for music that is not written in four bar phrases.

I would like to see more than four measures in the notation window when I am trying to read and play along with the soloists.

I would like an easier way to switch between the concert and transposed views of the chord changes.

I would like to use different fonts and chord suffixes.

I would like repeats, 1st & 2nd endings, codas

I would like the chord view to shrink to display more lines while playing.

Those are the things that would make my use of BIAB more enjoyable.

Just received downloads.... Thanks guys!
Question: Is there a set procedure to reduce the size of the realtracks folder on the Mac platform?

Hi Sanford,

Yes. Prefs - Real Tracks Settings, and then press the button that says Remove un-needed files.
This will then shrink the total size of the real tracks folder by 60-70%.
So on the Everyhting Pak you would reclaim about 65GB, ( shrunk from 100GB to 35GB)

This procedure also works for the Audiophile drive, with similar % savings.

Just open up the RealTracks preferences, and click on "Erase unneeded files".
You'll get a warning message, but as long as you don't plan on using ver. 2010 any more just click "OK".

Oops- Just saw Peter's message. I'm a slow typist.

I just cut down my BIAB-folder from 120,64 GB to 43.67 GB by "Erasing unneeded files". So you mean this wont affect performance or soundquality in any negative way?

Correct. In fact the sound quality is much better, since the tempo stretching and transposition algorithms have been improved.

Very nice!
How does checking "High Quality Tempo/Pitch Stretching" in realtracks preferences affect quality?

This setting improves quality of the stretching. The improvement is noticable, but not "huge". The only reason not to do it is if you have a slow Mac. Since the program only runs on Intel Macs, there are not really any "slow" Macs out there, so it shouldn't be an issue. If it was an issue, you would notice sound dropouts, particularily in the early parts of playback. It is mainly an issue with old Windows PC's, from the XP era (2001), and hasn't been seen on Macs. We should likely default that "High Quality" setting to true.
