Hello,

Totally new here and have the new HDD version of 2011 EverythingPak. Supposing that there are no advantages to running from the HDD if I have the 40+ gigs to install on each of my computers?

Also, wondering how to back up the HDD and if a new one will run the same as the factory one if it ever crashes and I restore?

Guessing also that upgrades need to be done to both the HDD and any versions that I have installed locally on PC's ?

Nice to see you all and many thanks in advance,

Jon

Aren't those versions that come on their own hard drive like 1.5 terrabytes? USB to USB backup is going to take you overnight IF there is nothing proprietary that keeps them from being cloned....

Just make a clone copy of the original drive using Acronis True Image software. Works like a charm.

Hi Jonn,

The hard drive for the Everything Pak is probably around 100 GB. To check this, right click on the drive icon in My Computer and check the Properties option. (By comparison, the Audiophile version is around 1.5 TB.)

To make a back up, it's simply a matter of copying the files to a new disk. Make sure that you enable the option (in Windows: My Computer | Tools | Folder Options | View) to "Show Hidden Files and Folders". This will ensure that if there are any hidden files, they too will get copied across. The back-up drive works identically to the new drive.

PG Music recommend running from the internal hard drive as the first option. This is what I do. I don't worry about updating my back-up copy. What I do is to keep my installation fully up-to-date and keep copies of the updates in an "Update" folder on my USB drive. (This is not really necessary because the latest updates - which will include all previous, relevant updates - are always readily available from PG Music.)

Regards,
Noel

Hello Noel,

Very helpful info! Thanks so much. Will follow all of that good advice.

Might make a new post about this, but do you know if there are lists of the RealTracks and RealDrums anywhere? I did a search, but nothing came up. Thanks again.

Warm Regards,

Jon

As Noel mentioned, PG Music recommends that you install to your own internal hard drive if you have the room. By doing so, you automatically have your backup on the supplied external drive that you store safely away. You can always reinstall from the external drive and then just apply the latest update.

We can't tell you how much space BIAB takes up on the hard drive unless we know whether you purchased the audiophile version or not. The good news is that version 2011, the latest, takes up only 1/3 the room of prior versions, because it uses a new algorithm and requires fewer base files.

You can see the full list of RealTracks and RealDrums when you go to select one for a particular instrument. There may also be a list on the website; I'll look now.

EDIT: this page lists all RealTracks by group: http://www.pgmusic.com/realtracks.all.win.htm

And this page shows all RealDrums by group: http://www.pgmusic.com/realdrums.win.htm

Noel, as you may know, you can shrink these sizes by 65%, by Edit-Prefs-RealTracks Prefs-" Remove Un-Needed Files" button.
Then the Everything Pak would be around 35GB and the AudioPhile about 500 GB,
note that this only applies to BB 2011 or higher for Windows (or Mac)

Have Fun!

One other thing to mention is that if you copy everything to a different sub-folder on a different drive, then BIAB will not run properly. If you want it to run off the backup drive later, you need to copy the folder structure exactly.

You can make it work if you copy everything to a sub-folder (such as MyBB-Backup, or whatever), but you have to map a drive or use the SUBST command to do so.

Otherwise, just cloning the files from the USB drive you received to another USB drive works fine and you can use that to run BIAB if the situation presents itself.

I am still trying to crack the code about what is different in different versions. I have hard drives laying everywhere and if the $200 product on plastic media is the same content as the $499 version because the $499 version comes on an external hard drive and enclosure then it's not really much of a decision for me. That would be $300 for a 160gb hard drive.... I just bought a 2tb for $129. I am looking for the advantage of spending the bigger dollars. The product page are written with PG buzzwords that a newbie does not understand.

So I guess the question resolves to this.

Is there a CD/DVD only product that has the exact same content as the $499 version that comes on a standalone external drive so I don't buy a hard drive I don't need.

Hi Eddie,

By the $499 version, I take it that you mean the upgrade to the Audiophile edition from versions 2009 or earlier. My interpretation of the sales page is that this is an option for those people who don't yet have an Audiophile edition.

In an earlier post in this thread, it seems as though you the 2010.5 Audiophile edition of the software. If this is the case, and it's registered with PG Music, I suspect that you would be able to upgrade using the Audiophile to Audiophile option for $299.

To clarify this, you would need to ask PG Music Sales. You can either phone on the toll-free number, email or use the internet Live Help. Unfortunately, these forums are not run by PG Musics Sales staff. We're simply a collection of end-users helping one another.

All the best,
Noel

Last I heard about the math, yes there is a slight cost to get the hard drive.

The biggest discussion was around an all download version, despite it's size, and PG music started to offer that.

Contact sales at pgmusic dot com and ask them. Ask for the product as

1. an external hard drive.
2. as a set of DVD's
3. as a download only option.

Ask for the same end product, just delivered the 3 ways, and get back to us.

Given it's the left coast, they put on sandals around 11 our time, then get a latte, comb the beard, and arrive at 'work'. Laid back eh?

No angst required, just an enquiry.
