I decided to pension off my 6 year old AMD 64 DAW and have replaced it with an HP Desktop with an i3 Intel Processor, 8 gigs of Ram, new soundcard, 22 inch LED screen and a 1TB hard drive. I have started to transfer the Music software and have found one problem of which it is useful to note.
I installed the Software for BB and RealBand from the Everything Hard Drive and then copied over the corresponding uptodate folders from my old computer. BB worked but the others failed because of the internal settings directed the programs, on Open, to a Drive Letter which no longer existed. After some thought I renamed the two files which contain the stored settings and reopened RB and PTW. This worked - although I still have to set up the program Settings again.
Otherwise all is proceeding with a few minor hiccups.

I'm in the middle of doing the same thing. In several recent threads Peter was asked what was the best way to install everything from the HD and he said if you have a big enough system drive to install it all there including all the RT's and RD's. Like you I've been running off my external HD because my old machine was just that, old. My new Athlon Phenom 6 core has a 1TB HD as well so that's what I did and my Everything Pak HD's are going to be backups. When you choose Option 3 the installer defaults to your C drive and it's automatic from there. What amazed me was it only took 7 or 8 minutes to install and copy over everything and that's just using USB 2. My new mobo has an external E-Sata port but I haven't bought an E-Sata external drive yet. I can only imagine how fast that will be doing file transfers.
I've read that Windows can actually boot from an external E-Sata drive so that's next, I'm going to get one of those drives and clone my C drive to it as a system backup.
Something else you'll like is all the other posters with quad cores or better are right. I've done songs in Biab using 5 or 6 RT's and they generate and play in 4-10 seconds. It seems RT's solo's take longer than backing tracks. 5 backing tracks will generate in about 4 seconds for me while 4 RT backing tracks with a RT solo takes about 10. 10 whole seconds, oh wow, what am I gonna to do, that's soooo long....yeah right, my old machine was taking 30-40 seconds for that.

Yes it is early days for me, but I have always run the PGMusic programs plus RealTracks etc inside the box while all development was directed to an external drive which I just switched over.
My start up Window provides an F button to start up from a Hard Drive, but there used to be an Option in the main SETUP menues to set this as a permanent option. I haven't got around to speed tests yet, but I love the quickness of the BOOT.
I hate setting up a new DAW - the programs you think will cause trouble don't whereas others are pain in the rear. One such is VSAMPLER3 which is no longer supported, but is an excellent program which I use extensively. I found on install that the Virus checker decided that the setup program had a virus and refused to load. I then copied the working program from my old system and set this up. I found that the program then needed to have the Keys re-installed to move it out of DEMO mode. Luckily, I had retained a copy and this worked for the Standalone version, but not for the VSTi. Then the DXi can only be setup from the Setup program. The original Standalone program had special Midi virtual cables to connect to a Sequencer - also gone, but Midi Yoke worked just as well. The program is still being sold and I am in communication with company. Watch this space.
I think that the more time was taken waiting for Program updates from Microsoft to be installed - there are lterally thousands of changes.

Isn't that the truth. While I have Biab and RB working with my Sonic Cell, I haven't installed all my VSTi's and other plugs yet. A big one is Sampletank. Another big one is my Emulator X Studio with the 1820M Audiodock. The Sonic Cell is also an interface and it's working great but I want my Patchmix DSP and multiple ins/outs of the Emu system. Not looking forward to that at all, I know there's going to be issues but I'll get through it.

Hi Bob,
The VSTi/DXi for VSampler are not working properly - some .dll files are not available. However, I normally use the Standalone version and record via the Soundcard as I need to do for other external and internal synths. I have had one set back - no sound and I found that I needed to reinstall my new Soundcard (another new experiece, but worthwhile). I still have reinstall the Ketron driver again - no big deal but irritating. I have sorted out the PGMusic programs and am very pleased with the appearance on a 22inch LED Screen. As to speed, RB goes through the fandango of linking with BIAB functions very fast. Still much to do before I can actually produce any music. Incidentally, I am breaking in a new wireless keyboard and mouse - I am not sure of the operational benefits and there are now two more pieces of kit running on batteries.

I did the same thing with the USB wireless keyboard/mouse. Both work fine except I can type too fast for the keyboard sometimes. I'm not some speed demon typist but I can do 30-40 wpm and if I really get going the keyboard will freeze up for 10 seconds or so. Not a big deal. This weekend I'm biting the bullet and pulling out my EMU hardware from the old box and putting it in the new one. Oh joy, can't wait. I remember installing it the first time in XP was a real pain now it's Win 7 64 bit. There's some good threads about it on the EMU forum, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yes Soundcards can be problematic. I purchased an upgrade to my previous Card and could not the Line In for my Ketron SD2 to work. What used to be a simple panel showing all the volumn sliders has now developed into a full mixer with all three Inputs being able to be set to Microphome, Line In or digital. In the end I used the Microphone input socket and reset it to Line In. Still a long way to go - at least another week, I suspect.

As stated above, I purchased a new soundcard with my new DAW - a Creative XF1 Titaium which I had preinstalled to eliminate future problems. Everthing is working well - still a lot of Creative Bloat Ware, some of which I will probably delete. I loaded the exras and ticked the list to download and included the Sountfont Manager program. Typical Creative - it didn't download and I had fiddle about in their Website to find the program to download and install.
I have a number of DX Plugins which have been set up, but cannot be read by RealBand. The VSTi version are however working OK.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
