I could be wrong, but I suspect that since you deleted everything in bars 1-4, then when you went to copy the melody of bars 1-4 to 5-9, it copied "nothing", since there was nothing there to copy, and then left what was there. That's just a guess.
Instead, why not use the command, "Edit, Erase..From..To". Then check the melody box and set your bars. That should erase the melody within the bars you specify.

This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
