I have a dedicated music PC running XP which has decided to die on me. A replacement is likely to run Windows 7. I don't want to upgrade my BIAB which is 2007 (at least not yet as I've just retired and returned to music making!)

Does BIAB 2007 run okay on Windows 7?

Hi Bob,

It's important to find out if 2007 requires a 32-bit operating system. I seem to recall a post a few months ago where a user had an earlier version of BIAB, bought a computer that had Windows 7 (64-bit), and could not get the earlier version of BIAB to work. I cannot remember what the version was, though, and it might have been earlier than 2007.

For reference, Windows 7 comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. (If the 64-bit operating system was installed by default and BIAB 2007 does not operate in a 64-bit environment, this would be a problem.)

I'd contact PG Music Support on this one.

Regards,
Noel

Noel is correct, call PG Music. The problem is not Windows 7; it's whether the older version of BIAB will run if you get 64-bit Windows (which I otherwise recommend). Please do consider upgrading BIAB to version 2011 if you can; the RealTracks alone are worth it.

Bob,

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and normally run BiaB 2011, but just for the fun of it I just now dug out my old BiaB 2007 and installed it and it runs just fine !

I have the Cakewalk TTS-1 and the Coyote Forte DXi softsynts installed and it runs fine with both of them too.

If there's any particularly demanding song you'd like tested, send it to me and I'll be happy to test it for you !

Best regards
Ole

Windows 7 has something called "compatibility mode" where you can run 32 bit apps on a 64 bit OS. You should not be having problems.

While it is not needed here, as Peter confirmed, the XP compatibility mode is only available in Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate versions.

Even so, I have never had to use it. Windows 7 runs some software I have from the 1990s just fine.

For what it's worth, I recently loaded my BIAB Windows 2007 Megapack on an iMac that has a 32 bit Windows 7 Professional Bootcamp partition. It seems to run OK, but I do get a crash error every time I close the program. As I said, it's running on a Mac, but presumably it shouldn't really be any different at this point than if it were a PC. I have not spent the time to reinstall the program to see if that helps.

When you installed the MegaPack, did you also install the Roland Sound Canvas soft synth (non the VSC-DXi, but just the VSC-stand alone). If so, it will work in 32-bit, but you get the error message when exiting. I would suggest (if that's the case) un-installing it and just using the VSC-DXi version. Once uninstalled, I don't believe you'll get the exiting error message anymore. The VSC-DXi, however, does not work in 64-bit Windows.

Just a thought.

Thanks! I believe I did install it. When I get back to my home computer I'll see if that's right and, if so, try uninstalling it. Hopefully that solves the issue.

Well, unfortunately it looks like that wasn't the issue. I actually only had installed the DXi (not the old Roland VSC). I reinstalled BIAB, but to no avail. The error seems to be related to my video card drivers. Maybe I'll try tech support, but since it's not really a BIAB problem, I'm not sure if they will be able to help. Thanks again for the help.

The DXi version of the VSC will work in Windows 7 or Vista if it's 32-bit, but the stand-alone (non-DXi) doesn't work in anything newer than XP.

I'd reinstall video and audio drivers next.
