Howdy! I have audio in BIAB but not in RB. I changed my audio settings to use "ASIO". I can't see where to change it back.???

Click on ASIO and you should get a drop-down box to select either MME or ASIO. However, when you select ASIO, you need to go into the Audio drivers screen to see what exactly was selected. You may have multiple flavors of ASIO installed and you may have selected the wrong output ports.
I know on my laptop that if I'm using MME, I can listen on either my laptop built-in speakers or through headphones (which mute the speakers). However, if I use ASIO (I use ASIO4ALL), I have to choose different settings for the internal speakers versus the headphones.

When ASIO is causing you problems. ASIO is only needed to reduce latency or delay when you're trying to play a softsynth live. Usually MME has about a half second of latency and you can't play along with that kind of delay. Other than that, ASIO does squat for you because that latency doesn't matter for playback. You can notice it sometimes visually if you look at the keyboard display while a song is playing, you'll see the keys lighting up a half second behind the music. If that really bothers you then use ASIO to reduce the latency if it doesn't mess up your system. I was having problems with ASIO for years with my old system but with my new Phenom 6 core it works perfect. I've read that ASIO puts a lot of strain on your system so if it can depend on how many tracks you're playing at once, if you have effects plugins going on how many tracks etc. If you're having problems maybe your PC just isn't up to it.

SOME sound cards require the use of ASIO in order to enable multiple outputs.

I agree with Silvertones above. I have just completed the installation of a new DAW with Windows 7 and a Creative FXi Titanium Card, the latter giving me more problems than the rest of the installation put together. In the past, Creative has produced Soundcards primarily for the Gaming fraternity with music creation as an afterthought. FXi has a Music Creation Mode and has superior sound to my old Audigy card. However, Creative have added numerous extra options which take a while to sort out.
I have struggled for two days just to record a track, working through all the various option combinations one at a time only to find, finally, that all I needed to do was switch from MME to the ASIO driver to get results. Further exploration is still needed.

One area I have found where MME becomes a liability is if you are editing a midi track. With ASIO you can hear the notes sound as you add them or drag them up and down on the staff to change pitch. This audio feedback is a big plus when editing a midi track. If MME is enabled, the notes do not sound in the edit window when manipulated.

I am still trying to get satisfactory results from Record, but have concluded that I will need to use ASIO even though the actual recordings are low on Gain and need further Gain to be added in the File. MME gives the required recording gain but I am experiencing clicks and crackles in the final wave. If anyone has an idea how to overcome this problem, please advise????

Check cables to make sure they are not the cause. MME causing pops/clicks is pretty unheard of unless a bad driver is being used. You don't have 'Soundmapper' or such selected for the MME driver do you?
Are you doing edits on the tracks? If so pay attention to the 'smooth audio cuts' option in the popup.
If audio is not cut at the zero crossing this can come back to haunt you. You want to use 'smooth audio cuts' if there will be silence on one side of the cut. You don't want to use it if you plan on pasting and trying to line up waveforms. It's one of the fine points of editing in RB. This feature takes whatever you cut, and fakes it back to a zero crossing point very quickly.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for reply.
On Record, I can hear the MME drivers and everthihg is going through the SoundCard, BUT no recording is achieved now. According to my notes I was getting a response from the MME drivers initially, but the results were poor being very crackly. It is strange that when I go to record, both RealBand and PTW messages that there are no MIDI drivers installed, but the Drivers are highlighted in the Drivers Box and proceed to play the sounds. If I enable the ASIO driver then I can get recordings, but need to monitor the Soundcard display carefully to avoid clipping.
The VU Meter seems to work for Audio only, whereas I am sure it used to work for Midi Inputs. The Soundcard on Record program works with MME drivers and saves the results in separate folders - so the soundcard is not the problem.
I didn't use the ASIO driver previously and seem to recall that it was believed to be program specific. However, I have recorded a mix of synths, one of which uses the ASIO Driver also. So far it seems to work. If I installed ASIO4all would it work alongside the Creative ASIO to give an alternative input??.
Thus, I haven't even looked at any wave editing problems.
I have reinstalled RealBand, Ptw and the Soundcard a number of times because changing from MME to ASIO in PTW results in a booming sound and then no sounds from anything. I found that I can get the MIDI drivers back by deselecting them ALL and then reinstalling them.

VU's only work for audio, if they worked for midi it was because you were using a softsynth to create audio from the midi.
Tell us what you have selected for MIDI drivers; and what other choices you have. If you get the MIDI message on opening the program something is wrong in the MIDI settings to begin with. Do not use MIDIMapper, as this relies on windows to route the midi wherever it feels like it. After selecting one, remember to click the 'move selected device to top' button so it becomes the default.
Do the same thing for the Audio drivers; when going to MME it may be selecting SoundMapper, which again let's windows run the show. ASIO drivers don't allow this to happen. Select the correct MME drivers for your card and click 'move selected device to top' again.
ASIO4All is an option, but I'd try to fix the real problem first.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hi Bob,
It is simple things that throw you. Your below statement is correct, although I had found the problem before reading your Post.
""Do the same thing for the Audio drivers; when going to MME it may be selecting SoundMapper, which again let's windows run the show. ASIO drivers don't allow this to happen. Select the correct MME drivers for your card and click 'move selected device to top' again.""
I had Emailed Support detailing the various problems, but fortunately, I decided to have one more attempt, I even considering completely uninstalling and reinstalling the Soundcard although, in my view it was OK. Firstly, I worked through the signal chain and realised that while the Input Driver was Creative Speakers the Input Audio Driver had at sometime defaulted to Midi Mapper. I altered this to “What You Hear” and the Recording was saved. Still some clicks, but this looked like clipping in the Sound Card. I altered the record level successively down to 45% and this cured the problem. As a Bonus, the VU Meter is now working for both internal and external synths, but Problem 3 Message: Warning no Midi Input Driver Installed is still appearing. It now looks like it appears the first time you play or record in a replacement .seq so it creates a relatively small problem which can be ignored.
I feel mightily relieved that at last I can actually start doing something worthwhile after a fortnight of wrestling with setting up a new DAW and thank you for your support.
Lyn
