Lawrence.1955, Thanks for the info I'll take a closer look at your earlier post (JV-1080)
I'm sure there is a setting I'm missing. A bit of a head scratcher on this one. Other than the soloist issue the Ketron plays well and sounds great for my use. If Andrew is watching I'm open to try whatever next step is suggested as the reinstall to test folder rendered the same results.

Check your options, prefs, midi options. The fly by hints will clue you in here. There are some styles which have embedded patch changes, for example to have harmonies etc. Be aware of these settings. In my setup all are checked except for the drums I think.

Hi John. The following are the only things NOT checked on the midi options page
1. Send GM mode at start up
2. Send XG mode at start up
3. Send Extra Notes Off
4. Drum Bank changes

All others are checked

Hello bluzkeez1,

The file has an embedded patch change "vibes" at the beginning of the Soloist track. This was probably added by the Soloist, when auto-generating a vibes solo. By embedded, I mean you can see if if you open the Notation window, go to the soloist track, and click on the [#] button (event list editor button). This is why the patch you hear might not necessarily match up with the one displayed at the top of the screen when you first open the song. It's normal.

If you want to override it and choose your own patch, you can simply use the instrument pull-down menu and choose a patch. It will automatically override the embedded patch. If you want to save your song with that patch, it should just be a matter of pressing save - next time you open the song it should be opened with the new one.

If pressing save does NOT save your selected patch, then go to the File menu - Save Song with patch and harmony, and check that "Save current melody and soloist patches" is checked. It should be checked, because it is in the default program settings, and you installed the program to a fresh test folder. It shouldn't be necessary for you to visit this dialog unless you have changed the patches on tracks OTHER than the melody or soloist - in that case, you would press the Fill w/ patches button and click save.

Band-in-a-Box 2009 works differently than 2011 in this respect - in 2011, all patches are automatically saved with your song by default, whereas in 2009 you sometimes need to visit this "save with patches and harmony" dialog.

I'm not sure if this answers your question, but maybe it is a step in the right direction...

Thanks Andrew, I will try the Save option. I was just concerned that the displayed soloist patch wasn't the patch that necessarily played when I openned and played a factory song style which included a soloist. I've always had the ability to change the patch. I assumed that the displayed soloist patch would be the one that played. Thankyou for your time and thanks to all forum members for the help

I am always finding other peoples gems stuck in song files I got from who knows where. It's like finding the neighbours dog's offerings prior to cutting the grass.

I've learned to start messing with my stuff before calling. I was in Europe for 3 weeks and could not for the life of me make my vocal harmony box work. 3 hours. Turns out I was a moron again and had changed the synth from the Ketron to Dxi to render a song before I left. But the Ketron box was flashing away. I've got to figure that out too, for I plugged in headphones and hear it play. Strange.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
