No that is not true.
I record fine with MME (WDM really) a lot. Talking 36 track songs with some takes being eight tracks at once.
ASIO helps latency only when you want to use a keyboard and play a sound from a DXi/VSTi synth in real time. Or you want to record a track and hear the DX effects on the track being recorded (while recording it). It helps in 'Realtime' processing. Not needed for most users. If you have them and they work well; great. Use 'em. If you have MME, there's no reason to think your recordings will suffer from them. I use MME and ASIO on the same project at times and there is no difference in the recorded tracks.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
