Here's the response from tech support. I'll try it when I get home from work.

This is generally known as Latency. Enabling the DXi synth should resolve the issue.

1. Click on Opt. | MIDI/Audio Driver Setup...

2. Check the box labeled "Use VST/DXi Synth". A DirectX Plugins window should pop up. If not, click on VST/DXi Synth Settings.

3. In the DirectX window, select the VSC-DXi, or the Coyote WT in the top pull-down menu. Close the window, and click OK to get out of MIDI Driver Setup. Click Play to make sure that you hear sound.
