I haven't even got a clue what you question is.
What is it you want to achieve and what is not working?

You'll probably find that Avast has installed a firewall that has blocked your Wi-Fi adapter. I'm not familiar with the Avast product, but open the control centre, whatever it's called, and disable the firewall. If you get you access back then this will have proven that it's the problem. You then need to decide how you want it to work.

Also, connecting to the same Access point via cable AND wi-fi is not a great idea. You will get conflicts and you may even break connections so try without the cable connected.

Of course, something else may have disabled things, but this is where I'd start.

Do you mean you can't connect via wifi or do you mean you can't log in on the wifi-router to change the settings?

If you can't connect to the wifi network:
- check if the wifi router is on
- check if wifi is enabled on your computer
- Let windows/OSx search for wifi networks and connect to your wifi. Check if the password is correct.

If you can't log in to your router:
- start your web browser
- type in the ip-adress of your router
- login using your password

I can't recall any problems with my wifi when I switched to the payed Avast version. I did have issues connecting my Windows Mobile device; that required switching off the firewall. iPhone works great though.

Like I said, I'm not familiar with the Avast product, however many of the firewalls that come with AV/AntiMalware products exhibit this kind of behaviour. In any case, it's an easy test.

OK, you've proven that the firewall is not the problem. The error message is pointing to something related to the wireless NIC.

This could be driver related (false positive in the AV product deleting an important file?), the antenna may have become disconnected (assuming it has an external one), the NIC itself may have failed (unlikely, but not impossible), NIC not scanning the channel in use by the Access Point (does the driver allow you to specify channels in use?)

Given this problem seemed to start when Avast was installed I would definitely look for a software cause. Perhaps you could reinstall the drivers?

Given that the probelm happened when you installed Avast, the first thing to try, and the simplest, is to do a system restore back to the point before you installed the software. In most cases where a software installation has changed something that created a problem, system restore will put your computer back the way is was before the change was made and save you a lot of headaches in attempting to figure out what was changed.

Try disabling the nic and then reenabling. If that doesn't work try uninstalling it and then reinstall. Avast has messed it up for sure.

Are you using an ethernet cable and trying to get wifi? If so that won't work.
We had our second PC on wifi and I bought a 50 foot cable, snaked it to the next room to the other PC and got rid of the wireless. What a difference. Solid as a rock, never drops the connection and both PCs have the exact same speed now.

We started having problems because we have neighbors that have wifi that are as strong as the wifi in our house. When searching for a connection we see 2 new networks that are just as strong as ours one room away. It was confusing our computer, so we just got a cable and plugged in. It is so much better. And we know we're secure now.

Even though we had a password on our wifi, I'm sure it wasn't hard to hop onto our connection. We connected to our neighbors wifi with no problem so we just dumped it. Believe it or not one person's network password was "password".

Never had a problem. 5 computers in the house, all on wifi.

One computer dual boots linux and win7 and the drivers don't run the wifi card in linux yet so if required I run a short cable and get updates. This too will change.

I also have a wi fi printer. And my machines share music files, and photos.

As to passwords, if you really want to try and hack me, show up in the driveway with a case of beer and I'll watch. I've a dandy collection of Mozart CD's. I watched a move in the '60's, it was M.A.S.H. Before that it was Sound of Music. Don't watch movies in general, and why on a computer? I generally sleep through tv movies.

That said I have Band in a Box 2011 running on my Android phone. That was just to see what it did. OK. I don't need it but it works.

If I was building a house (never) I'd put in rj45 jacks in every room, along with cable, phone, 120, 240, central vac and a new central hair drying system I invented as we speak. I might just put in jacks for welding too, you never know. A Satellite dish on the room in case NASA wants me again.

I'm disappointed the nut jobs didn't rapture out. I was headed to the neighbours for some great pickings on used car parts.

I hate wireless. Nothing but trouble. My 100-year-old house is wired for Ethernet cables; it's worth the holes in the walls.

It's in my back pocket. My asspirations have been lowered since I put it there. I am recharging my government issue Android phone off the red current bush in the back yard.

I'm starting to disbelieve the conspiracy people. The government, who've been collecting my taxes for ever, and at the same address for 25 years want to know where I live. This so I can have my pension. They also want to know my age. And my bank account number. I told them that stuff a few weeks ago with my tax forms, but the same department has lost all that. They put my tax refund (1 percent back!) into that bank account, but I had to tell them about it again. They said I might have to show my birth certificate, which of course is not required to pay taxes, just to get back the pension money I gave them to mismanage for me.

I am bitterly disappointed at the lack of "Rapture". Golly, my rich evangelical neighbours had all that stuff including a sports car I was evilly lusting after, and had they left I was going to use their hot tub, car and other stuff. Then I was going to repent and be ok anyway. Now, nothing. I think they should share.

The only trouble I had with aforementioned constant church goers was when their kids unhooked my cable tv/internet line to watch movies, cutting me off. The cable guy came over and fixed it, putting tamper proof screws in the box in the corner of my yard by the current bush. Turns out they had that tool in their garage too, to fix the sports car I wanted. So I have a Mini Cooper and they have that old Triumph convertible.

Well, as far as yer wi-fi is concerned, it's about as good as my last hi-fi, the Blauplunkit unit with those SW buttons so I could listen to Ma'sCow broadcasts during your Keenedy cold snap with Crewschev. I even could get really high-Fidel-ity from yer Cuba, not to be confused with the Cluebase used by people hear to multi-track.

I'm all fer multi-track. See we North 'mericans have a hard up time with that, due to the diesel engines the oil monopoly makes us use. I was in train stations all over Europe where you could step right onto a 200 km. an hour train right at grade in a mall and wisk off to another country with decent beer.

I am grateful to have gotten home though. The pension cheques are pending, and I almost got killed off in a bicycle stampede at rush hour in Amsterdam. We need to send some of our bleeding heart Liberal political types over there to stop crazy 'dammers, from texting and cycling without mandatory helmets, horse blinkers, and turn signals on those bikes.

If ya ever need advice look me up, it's been too wet to plant and my feet are still frozen so I've lots of pondering of ponderous stuff to contemplate freely, just so as you don't take anything I say to the bank, nor do you take it seriously, unless I tell you that the Beatles didn't write no 3 chord songs eh?
