This might muddy the waters a little bit but I see things this way
1] Major tonality (modes of)
2] Minor tonality (modes of)
3] Blues
In terms of chords many, but by no means all, Major key pop/rock songs are based around I, IV, V structures.
In jazz it the II V I that is king.
In blues its the 12 bar.
Minor tonality theory is still a bit of a struggle for me as I hear so many different versions, it seems easier to play though
