My limited understanding of the process is that when you hit the Enter or \ keys, notes in the muted melody will play. Moreover, the only note(s) that will play are those that align with the point in time when Enter was hit. The QWER keys then activate notes that lead-up to the melody note played when Enter was hit. My present understanding of the process is that it's not automatic, it's more of a manual process. Notes are only played when you hit the appropriate keys.

As mentioned, I only have a limited understanding. I have investigated it in an effort to try and provide you with information. As a consequence, it has also helped me understand another feature of BIAB. I don't think it's one that I shall be using.
