With all good wishes, No, not yet. I would need to know which DAW you are considering. Although all of them do a similar function, there are many competing products, and each has different features and often quite different workflow approaches. Could you be more specific about perhaps a few you are considering?
Or is it that you would like to know in general terms what the basic functions of a DAW are? And, don't forget about the one you already have, RealBand. So it all boils down to, what do you want to do?
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Fender Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Try doing a search on YouTube. Just type in the name of your DAW and your bound to get some results.

Hi Walt. Is "it" RealBand? Is that what you want to know about, or non-PG Music products? If it is RealBand, beyond referring to the material on this website, I am not qualified to comment. I use another competing product, only because I learned it many years before RealBand was developed. Many users here do know all about RealBand and could give better help.
In general, DAW is an acronym for Digital Audio Workstation, which means you use a computer with hardware and software for recording, mixing, playback and sometimes CD burning. It supports both audio and MIDI. Whereas BIAB is a phenomenal tool for composers, it has only one audio track and essentially two MIDI tracks, so if your goal is to develop a song using many audio or MIDI tracks, you will find it much easier to use RealBand or another DAW program.
A great advantage to RealBand, besides the fact you have it for free, is that it "reads" all the information from a BIAB song. Other DAW software can take BIAB tracks (both MIDI and audio, through a process called Drag & Drop), but you will not have the chord information transferred directly. If that is important to you, RealBand is the best choice. If not, you can still have other software sometimes guess the chords, or just recopy that information into the other program.
As far as other DAW software, they can all get you to the same place, but there are very substantial user-interface differences and price differences. Also, some have onerous copy protection schemes that I prefer to stay away from. PG Music products are so much better than most in this regard.

Ditto to rharv and Matt. I asked your same question not too long ago. Initially, I just ignored Real Band. However, later on there were some songs I wanted to do arrangements for and not even use BIAB styles or even have a need for the chords window. Basically, I discovered that Real Band lets you develop and arrange your own tracks and "mix" them to a final product. For me, not knowing anything about working with sound, this has been an arduous process. My free advice (you get what you pay for) is to do whatever Real Band tutorials that you can find. Start off with some simple tune like Twinkle Twinkle Litte Star and go from there. Or maybe you have your own or another tune you would rather use. Save often and use different file names so you can go back if you have to. Refer to the manual whenever you can. I have a little free screen capture program to use when I see a post that has taught me something or offered a tip. For me this is a lot less painful that trying to read the manual cover to cover. I was truly overwhelmed at first. I have a long ways to go, but at least I am now able to produce a useable product. The folks on here will very kindly and I would add gracefully help out, but they do expect you to do some research on your own. I have 2 DAW's besides Real Band. I use both of them because each has some features that I like and can understand. They are on the "simple" side compared to others that are feature-rich and very powerful. Some will say that brand X is the very best and others will say brand Y. I'm trying to use Real Band as much as possible. I'm hoping that someday I won't have to use the other DAW programs. As has been pointed out to me, you are better off if you can just learn one DAW and stick with it. That DAW can be Real Band for most of your normal needs. I did buy another one recently for $75. However, since I'm learning it slowly, it isn't very useful to me yet. I'm not a music major or a professional musician. The world of sound is a whole new frontier for me. Based on what I've learned so far, I think that Real Band is one of the better ways to learn given the support level of the product and it's forums. Good Luck in your search.
Stan

Save often and use different file names so you can go back if you have to.
One thing a lot of users don't realize is that RB does that for you! Every time you save a file a backup of the previous version is saved in the Realband/Backup folder. it is saved with a different extension though and you have to use the "File-Open backup" command from the pulldown to get to them.
If you are worried about space you can limit the size area used on disk and the number of backups in 'Prefs -3.File" tab of Options-Preferences section.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
