Hi,
We want to assemble a list of user-made BB tutorial videos. We'll put links to them on our site, on this page http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.user.htm

So please let us know of any tutorial "how-to" type videos on using Band-in-a-Box. Most of these would be on youtube. Please include a brief description of what the video is about, and of course a link to ir.

You don't need to be the creator of the video to tell us about it.

Note: This is only for VIDEO based tutorials.
We'll have a separate topic for other tutorials (text)

Please use the following format:

Topic: Using F5 (Bar Settings) to tell who to play what and when in BIAB
Author: Dan (aka Jazzmandan)
Description: Alway felt this was one of the top newbee questions, so I put together this video. A simple demo which shows how to use F5 (Bar Settings) to have different instruments step into different parts of the song. Example is done with Autumn Leaves having different RT soloists playing at different times (including the intro, choruses and specific bars) and leaving room for my vocals and solo to come in.

Many thanks to all who contribute to this thread/subject. I found Dan's to be a very easy way to understand a semi-complex subject. It has opened some new doors for me. Most helpful. THANKS!

Peter, I am a singer. If I produce a video I will have to use a Popular Song by typing in the chords. I want to display the joy of singing with BIAB. I realize this may not be allowed due to copyright infringement. What is your take on this? Is this allowed or no? Same question for performing live Jazz tunes in small lounges. Would this be a major problem?

Hey Gorilla,
If you make a backing track of nothing but chords, then maybe put a BB melody (solo) in the middle, you're not duplicating the song. Many chord progressions are similar. So, should not be an infringement, since if you play it by itself, it doesn't sound like any song in particular. But if you want to sing in a lounge, music played there should be covered by the use fees, paid by the establishment, that are paid yearly to BMI and ASCAP. It's no different than if you were in a cover band working the venue. They almost never sound like the record. Kind of like a poor man's karoke, except it you want to validate yourself, you'll likely be playing your guitar and doing a vocal, or something similar. You're just having an electronic noise maker help you sing the song. The use fees should cover that, since for heaven's sake, you're not ripping off anybody. Cover bands do it, why not you. Except you're working your tail off creating some sounds to help you get through the song. This whole concept is a step down from being a DJ, but still allows you to sing and play. I didn't ask anybody about this, so if you're in doubt, ask other musicians who do something similar. There is at least 1 fantastic singer in my area who came all the way from Ireland to do exactly as I have described, and after several years, he's still playing the club he started at. He's not hurting anybody, not getting rich (well, I don't know that. Maybe the tips are good). Anyway, he's a pro, and well known here, and abroad. I know the club is paying use fees, as prescribed for any club. So, all should be well for you and me, as well. Hope this helps.

BIAB Chords Drive Keyboard
By Barley

Hi I uploaded 2 videos on youtube showing how to set up BIAB and the Tyros 4 keyboard, so that the chords from BIAB songs are detected by the Tyros and the Tyros provided any style from the keyboard and applied it to the songs. Two good tutorials.
Check out the two videos at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7vucwldHvU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7Wk0beeKYo

These tutorials are also in Forum in "Tips and Tricks Section.

Hi Rocco,
Yes, excellent demo.

I'm a new BIAB user. Did you use the keyboard because you like the sounds better than
the ones that come with BIAB?

Thanks

Hi Debb,

The technique in my videos help to make playing a song easier for a non- professional like me. There are many good styles and v0ices on the Tyros 4, so that's part of the insentive, But the biggest advantage to the set up is that it allows "LIVE changes in styles voices and other sound features, like Multi Pads, on Tyros.

It adds a sort of professional sound to a "bad" keyboard player.

A new tutorial to compliment earlier tutorials on BIAB Chords Drives Keyboard.

This shows how to set-up Resistrations, and PAT (Performance Assistant Technology" set-up
so you can pre-program style and voice changes using BIAB Chord Drive,. It also shows how to take advantage of PAT on Yamaha Keyboards, which allows 'Poor' player to to hit any key on the keyboard and only sounds that are compatible with the chords from BIAB will be played. The normal - progressive scale is gone, and only chord compatible sounds are avalable.

Check it out at ------ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxozIi4YXsA

Thank you for making your video about using the audio chord wizard. Well worth watching. I most appreciated adding the drum and bass tracks to show how easy it is to match an existing track even if the track has wide variations in tempo. Couldn't believe how well they matched your guitar track.

By the way, your guitar track sounded O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G !!!

Hi Mr. Gannon, I have an entire channel dedicated to using Band in a Box with Tutorials. I have listed a few of them here:

**********************************************************************************************************************************************
Topic: How I Use Utility Tracks in Band in a Box 2021
Author: Henry Clarke
Description: Band in a Box 2021 - How I use "UTILITY TRACKS" in BIAB 2021. This tutorial describes how I use the UTILITY TRACK function in BIAB 2021 demonstrating my exact technique using real screens and a real song that I developed. For tutorial purposes and not to have the tutorial too long I only demonstrate using Real Tracks and not MIDI and I do not do Wave editing within the audio wizard.

Topic: How I use Audio Chord Wizard Audio Chord Wizard in Band in a Box
Author: Henry Clarke
Description: Band in a Box How I use Audio Chord Wizard. This tutorial shows how I use the Audio Chord Wizard to figure out chord progressions for songs I may want to cover. The ACW allows me to quickly adapt the chords to a style and arrange a cover version of the song while having the ability to quickly change keys if necessary so I can perform the cover in a key more suitable for my vocal. This is a long video but shows the capabilities of ACW and it's demonstrated in 2 different songs (Soul and Jazz).

Topic: How I use Band in a Box to Create Effective Solos
Author: Henry Clarke
Description: Band in a Box - How I use BIAB to create effective SOLOS. This tutorial describes how I use BIAB to create solos demonstrating the exact technique I use in selecting the Real Tracks, auditioning different instruments, the rationale I use in selecting a solo instrument, and how I drag and edit in my DAW. It's a long video but hopefully the screen shots will show you my workflow in an easy to understand manner and will serve as a tool for you in creating your own compositions.

Topic: Back to Basics - How to get started enjoying Band in a Box
Author: Henry Clarke
Description: In this video "Back to Basics" I explain the fastest way "in my opinion" to get started using Band in a Box. This is a tutorial for new uses and dives into the main interface, shows you what you need to get started, and how to enjoy your early days using the product (WHETHER YOU READ MUSIC OR NOT). It is long and if you're new you may want to take a break during the session but I want to show viewers every click of the mouse and menu so they can quickly and easily duplicate what they see on screen and get started.

Topic: 4 Tips to Enhance Your Music Production in Band in a Box
Author: Henry Clarke
Description: Band in a Box - 4 Tips to enhance your music production (within the Band in a Box Console). This tutorial presents 4 tips you can use in the BIAB console to add "color" to your music compositions. Dynamics can make all the difference in how a song is presented and these are things you can do BEFORE exporting to RealBand or another DAW. I focus on initial composition prep, sweetening the drums, adding instruments and when to use them, and creating "Shots" for impact in your song. I use a ballad for demonstration purposes but these techniques can apply to all varieties of music and across all genres.
