I've been there in the winter, and when I was there it was brutal! It's near Buffalo, which is well known for its winters.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

John Conley and MarioD both live in the area. I'm sure either will verify what rharv just stated. Buffalo, NY is known for record snowfalls.

Yep, Don is right on two accounts. I live near Rochester NY and Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse always battle for the most snow in Western New York State. The only tip I can give manning11 is that if you move in the area be sure to buy a snow blower and keep it in good running condition!
On the plus side there are tons of hockey teams around the area, off course that’s assuming you are a hockey fan. Also the spring, summer and fall are really nice around here!
OK, a random thought; Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Moving from where? Alberta north? I moved south from the James Bay basin in 80. Thought I arrived in Florida despite the snow. Wandered around in a T-shirt in January, it was 32F, which was a heat wave for us up north.
It's all relative. I was going back north but there are no specialists in medicine, you have to travel south. As I have 5 to 6 doc's appointments per month at the present I need to stay here. Plus my Mom is 83 and I am the go to guy, so someday very soon there is a Nursing Home. Tough gig that. I'm making her fight it, but it is not easy.
Life was supposed to be a bowl of cherries, but there's way too many pits.

Snowfalls aren't too bad here in Victoria (maybe that's why PG Music is here). We had a bad one this past winter - eight inches, and it lasted five days. Boy people were annoyed. Fortunately it only snowed the once. As John says, it's relative - but I like relatively much less snow than the rest of you get. Glenn

One potential down-side:
The lines at the Tim Horton's are always long at the various stops along the QEW in that region!
Someone who lives in that area can confirm the exact exit off the QEW - at a big food court on the south side of the QEW with perhaps 8 to 10 different fast food joints all under one roof.
Want Taco Bell, McD's, pizza, etc.? No problem. Walk right up to the counter and order. Tim Horton's; forget about it - line is 15 people deep and there's a special part of the parking lot to handle the drive-through traffic; and it's not enough - there's often a traffic jam out into the entrance road.
I forget which exit it's off of but it's insane. I'll chance to commit blasphemy against the food choices of my neighbors to the north, Tim Horton's just isn't that good. He may have been a good hockey player, but the food is 'blah'.

Everybody is dead on about winters in that area. I live near Cleveland, 30 miles from the shore of Lake Erie, 180 miles from Buffalo. On my worst day this winter I had 26 inches of snow in my driveway, which is pretty much a summer day when compared to Buffalo. Being at the furthest east point of Lake Erie, Buffalo gets the worst end of the deal as the cold Canadian air blows across 240 miles of lake picking up moisture the whole time, and then has nowhere to dump it other than on Buffalo.
Whole bunch of good Italian restaurants in Niagara Falls NY though!!!

It 2 hours from here to Niagara. I don't care about snow much, but I'd rather not have any. We get the NW wind off lake Huron and this winter we got 4 feet of snow in one day. It was nice and sunny 10 miles away, just a streamer off the lake nailed us.
I wanted to retire way north, but health issues will keep me here.
That said, maybe 2 years of all clear and I'll change my mind. I just got a clean for now bill of health after a scan, prodding, poking and tests.
I have worked off and on for a company in Niagara Falls, just wrote them a report, but I don't want any travel type of work, I'd rather stay home.

Hi Scott,
I used to be on a forum with a lot of Canadians who raved about Tim Horton's. When I saw a franchise in Flint, MI, I had to try it. Not bad, but nothing out of the ordinary IMHO.

The cheapest places to live in Ontario are: 1. Elliot Lake 2. Manitouwadge 3. Cobalt 4. Dutton & area 5. Parkhill You can use the www.mls.ca website to check homes. The first 2 are advertising themselves as retirement communities. I lived in Manitouwadge when I was Fire Marshal for the district. There were 2 active mines at the time, both shut down now. It's isolated, health care is minimal unless you take an 8 hour drive. Another option around here is St. Thomas. I think house prices and rents are cheaper in this general area than in Niagara. The cost of living in the south vrs 1 & 2 is less, gas, groceries, etc., not to mention heating. Some of those bargain homes in Manitouwadge had electric heating, which at -40 can chew up the budget quickly.

Add in what a Cancuk needs to pay for Health Insurance and we tend to stay close to home.
Good thing I didn't pay for the hundreds of doctors visits over the last year. The good news is the last 3 have said, see you in 6 months. All good news for a change.
