Nice to see you back on the forum, Sam.
Oh man, that regular drummer. We've seen him before, in a much more flamboyant mood (if that's possible) in another video. He did more moves than a majorette. Opinion was split on how wise it would be to play like that in most bands.
I did something similar to that routine with my whole band in one concert. I happened to have a group where everyone doubled on other instruments, and we had one guest artist. We were playing Stanley Turrentine's tune, Storm. It went something like this:
Band starts
guest artist relieves pianist
pianist relieves bassist
bassist relieves guitarist
guitarist relieves trumpeter (me)
trumpeter (me) relieves tenor sax
tenor sax relieves second pianist
second pianist moves to flute
Solos continue even on doubled instruments. Never missed a beat.
The only one who did not switch was (and here's where it relates to your video) the drummer. But we had Joel Rosenblatt from Spyro Gyra playing, my regular drummer. None of us felt competent to 'relieve' him! Fun is one thing; stupid is another.
I hope I get to pull that off again someday.

He's you're regular drummer? Wow, very cool Matt. I've seen Spyro Gyra several times here in So Cal. He does a cool trick when he steps out front using a little foot pedal thingy with some hand percussion. My favorite tune of theirs is South American Sojurn, I love Tom's solo on that one. I'm certainly not him but I can cover it more or less ok on piano. I charted that whole thing out for a band about 10 years ago from one of their live albums because I wanted to play that solo. Alas, that's over now, everything is casual bands, no rehearsals. I'm not about to dump that chart on a bunch of guys who've never heard it before...

Bob, I would love to see your chart. I think that's the tune Joel wrote. However, Joel left that band about two years ago after being with them for about 13 years. So, I don't know who you saw.

Thanks very much, Matt. I know I haven't been around much lately but I am not a lost outsider and I am still as much a PG Muso as ever. It has been very hard for me of late, too hard for most, but I am still going and I am still hanging in there.
On a more positive note, I have played a few solo gigs recently (just me and a guitar) and they were well received. I seem to be caught up right now in the folk acoustic singer-songwriter mould (NOT my scene) but I have a few musicians from the Vienna Conservatorium who want to work with me and love my vocals... if only I could pin them down!
Off to Greece on Friday for a week, Kefalonia - 'Captain Correli's Mandloin'. Just me and a guitar and a photo-journalist (think Astrid Kirchherr with the Beatles). I hope I can nail some tracks over that period. Time keeps dragging on...

I knew you were going to ask that. I haven't looked at it in years and if you had any idea how many charts in different folders I have, it's enough to choke that Florida gator they found in that shed today. They completely fill up a large deep drawer in the bottom of my bureau in the bedroom. I'll see what I can do. As for who Joel is, our drummer knows him or at least has met him a few times, I'm pretty sure it was him that did that thing I talked about but you're working with him now if he says he doesn't do that I certainly can't dispute it. I think it was at the House of Blues in Hollywood maybe 4 years ago. I remember watching Tom Schuman, he was playing standing up, dancing around, smiling beautifully and playing this incredibly technical stuff all at the same time. That's what makes a true performer. Me, I'm locked on my stool in front of the keyboard looking like a lump but I can play fairly well. I can play organ standing up but not piano and I've tried a few times, it just doesn't work for me.

Thanks for looking, Bob. And I only want the chart if it is legal for you to distribute it. I sometimes give away my charts, but not all of them, especially not the ones now being played on Pandora and satellite TV and radio. Not everyone feels the same about this. If the chart is available for sale, please let me know who the publisher is and I'll buy it.
Anything else I need, I just transcribe the chart. BIAB helps me do that. The tune I think it is, is quite complicated.
If it is Joel who can do what you say, it's news to me, but I will certainly ask him about it before our next concert. Could be a show-stopper. Thanks!

Yes, I play it all the time, with an 8 bar vamp between choruses. I like to play it on flute.
