I have BiaB 2011 and I just installed it on my new computer (Windows 7 64 bit). I am also using a KVM switch (KVM = keyboard, video, mouse) to connect my computer keyboard to my computer.

I am having trouble with the chord entry field (where we type in chord names).
The first keystroke I make will work fine. If I type 5 then 5 appears in the field. But from there it just starts counting upward and cycling thru the numbers 1234567890123...

For instance:
I type 5 and onscreen appears 5
I type 5 again and onscreen appears 6
I type 5 again and onscreen appears 7
I type 5 again and onscreen appears 8
I type 5 again and onscreen appears 9
I type 5 again and onscreen appears 0

When I type into other fields it works fine. I am only having the problem with the field to enter chords.

I think I have a setting that is wrong but I tried reinstalling, returning to factory settings, and updated the software but nothing helped.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

Wow that is sure strange behavior. So you say rebooting and returning to factory settings does not help. Have you tried to disconnect the KVM switch to see if it could be the cause? Can't say I have ever seen or heard this one before.

I am always a little neverous when something different then what I type appears anywhere on my computer since this can be a typical virus behavior.

Good Luck.

Thanks Jazzman!

I connected my keyboard and mouse directly to my computer and rebooted (I left my monitor on the KVM switch). Unfortunately, I still have the same problem.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I notice if I right-click the field there are options for unicode. I don't know anything about that stuff. I wonder if unicode is the problem.

If you suspect Unicode is the culprit, shut it off and see if that resolves. it. I mean it is messed up now. You can't do any damage...

Hi Beboy,

I've seen this before, sounds like you have ID Vault installed on your computer. It comes pre-installed on some machines, I think every Lenovo gets it these days.

ID Vault is supposed to protect your privacy by scrambling text that you type into a Password dialog online, but seems to think that the chord entry box in Band-in-a-Box is one of these dialogs, so this happens.

If you take a look at the Processes tab in your Task Manager, you should actually see ID Vault listed there.

I remember ID Vault being a bit of a pain to uninstall, as it doesn't show up in your list of programs in the Control Panel. The manufacturer of your computer may know how to get rid of it, and so would the folks who make the program. http://www.idvault.com/

Thanks
Kent

Wow. Yet another example of why every PC I've had for the last 10 years or so I've either built myself or had built by someone else. If it's not this, it's some other piece of bloatware that is preinstalled on name brand PC's that bites you. This is also an example of the PC makers not caring about pro audio. It's been said many times, we're on our own when it comes to this stuff. Pro audio programs may seem big and well known to us but to the average PC user and builders, they know nothing about it or the issues we deal with. Since we never know exactly what thing will cause a problem we're all much better off with a custom built generic Windows box. There's thousands of people on Craigslist who can do that for the same price or less than a name brand and you get to specify the chip/mobo combination, the brand of memory, hard drive etc.

On my HP laptop, I was having all sorts of problems trying to run Microsoft Access 2010. It sort of worked, and then it just died and you had to hard close it. Finally found out it was a conflict with the fingerprint reader. In this case, there was a setting I could change and can now use both Access and the fingerprint reader. For awhile, however, I thought my database had gotten corrupted or there was some serious bug in Access.

I've got a homebuilt, too, Bob, but that's much more difficult with laptops.

Thanks Kent! I'll see if I can locate ID Vault and get rid of it. I bet it will work.

Kent - You were absolutely correct!

On my computer the program was called Guarded ID.

I uninstalled Guarded ID and now BiaB works great!

Thank you uvery much for your help!

Hi Beboy,

Glad it's working! I hadn't heard of Guarded ID yet, so I'll have to remember this in the future.

Thanks

I think it is the same as ID Vault (if it is really Guard ID and not Guarded ID).
