After a crash I had to reinstall PT 12. Before when I highlighted a section of a track and hit the delete key it dissappeared. Now I have to do Edit/Cut. In addition, using the tracks/merge command I was able to merge multiple tracks at the same time. Now I have to merge them one at a time. It also used to run a popup program called STOM.exe which does not happen anymore. Any thoughts?

Thanks -

Actually, I used the restore function on my PC and got it back to how it was before I started having the issues. However, after about an hour or so, I start to hear those static "ticks" again and see the progress line jumping. Then I shut down for the day.

As I mentioned earlier, Dell remoted in and did a hardware check - said everything was OK as far as system resources. They said I could contact their software support for a "nominal fee" which I have not done yet.

Well see....

I'd do a thorough scan as a first step. If it went away and then came back masybe a bug is relaunching itself. Update your malware of choice first. (antimalwarebytes antimalware)

Or you may have memory leak going on.
Are you using Coyote Forte by any chance?

I noticed something that may be the culprit - I noticed after a while there was a message way in the upper left corner by the PT logo that said "Saving undo data..35% done., please wait..." it hung there forever until I closed the program. What could this be?

Thanks, as always, Bernie

Lots of edits in one session and a high 'undo' limit?

If you do lots of edits, save periodically.
Helps to clean things up. Most of us old timers know to save, close and open the program when the opportunity arises, just to reset everything.

You may be making lots of large edits and the area the computer uses to save a record of the edits (so you can undo multiple times) is getting full.

Or maybe your audio temp directory is set to a slow drive, like an external drive. You want the audio temp directory to be local and fast (IDE, SATA, etc.)

Just a couple ideas..

Again, are you using Forte for softsynth?

I do lots of edits per session. Sometimes, I use punch in on the midi track. Each new punch in creates a new audio track with that section. After I get a couple of these audio tracks how I want them, I merge all of the audio tracks for a particular instrument into one track, and delete the temporary "audio" tracks. I allways keep my midi track until the final mix, when I delete it before saving.

I do use my main C; drive for temp files. Where is that location set in PT?
I am not using FOrte as far as I know. How can I tell whichi is my softsynth?

THanks, as always, Bernie

softsynth is listed in the MIDI device window of options-preferences
Temp directory is set in the options-preferences-file tab I believe, one of the first couple tabs.

Back to the same issues. Had Dell look @ hardware remotely - said all was good. Did system restore. Had a couple sessions with PT - worked OK. Today, loaded a seq file with only the original mp3 song track and my audio drum track. Tons of static and stuttering. Looked at CPU usage - was varying between 39 and 48%. Seems kind of high for one previously recorded audio track.... not sure what tro do now. Closed PT and re-launched it and it locked up my system. I've spent more time the last month trying to get PT to work like it used to than I do actually recording. Any help most appreciated!

Bit the bullet and had Dell remote in for a "nominal" fee. They ran a malware program which took 3 hours and found almost 6 GB of junk files and other stuff cluttering my hard drive. Amazing. I've only had the PC for less than a year and don't download stuff from the internet. I'm going to give PT another try tonight and see if the stuttering/static problem has disappeared.

Thanks for the advice - Bernie

Hmmm, I wonder if the junk files they found were all the junk files that Dell installs on new PCs in the first place.

I just did a re-install of PTPA v12 and the delete key doesn't work for me. It does with PTPA2011, however.

Also, the merge command only works to merge two track into a third. That's all that's on the popup box.

Are you sure you are not getting PTPA confused with RealBand, which does allow the things you mentioned?

No - my PT 2010 did allow these things. Interestingly, I called Dell software support and spent 3 hours on the phone with techs from India, $135. They could not fix my problem, and said for another $229 I could be contacted to a tech in FL, USA. Needless to say, I didn't go that route.

I worked with PT tonight for about 10 minutes and started to have the same old problems. Tons of stuttering/static, and my CPU was overloaded. Then I got the dreaded blue screen error "APC_Index_Mismatch". They had a hotfix that I am waiting to receive via e-mail.

The saga continues......

Bernier - You didn't say PT 2010, you said PT 12. I didn't try PT2010, but I know PT2011 allows these things. However, PT v12 does not allow these things and that's the subject of this thread. So I'm confused now.

Hi Bernier,

When I get stuttering or static, I look at one of two things:

* Background applications. This could be anti-virus, utilities, instant messengers, etc. Try disabling or shutting down anything not needed for audio production. If you do disable your anti-virus, I suggest disconnecting from the internet for the duration.

* Audio Driver installation and selection. Make sure you have the most stable (not necessarily most recent) drivers installed for your sound card - whether it be onboard, PCI card, or external (USB/Firewire). Then you need to restore PowerTracks to factory settings so it can 'connect' to the drivers correctly. I'm not sure where that is in PT10, so maybe a call or live chat with a PG Music rep might be in order there.

You could also take a look in the relevant FAQ for PowerTracks Pro Audio 10 at: http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq11.htm#90

And to be clear, that would be PowerTracks 2010 (PTPA2010), not PT10, which came out much earlier.

Well, I did everything I knew and then some to fix my issue. Dell told me they are going to replace the hard drive - I hope that resolves it! This has turrned more into a PC issue than a Power Tracks issue!

As usual, thanks to veryone for all their help!!

Had my hard drive replaced. Tech told me a program called Microsoft Silverlight sometimes gets corrupted if Internet Options/delete files is not used enough. The corrpution causes hard drive read/write issues, which cannot be detected by most diagnostics. Streaming viode uses lots of read/writes. Silverlight is used by Netflix. Have not reinstalled PT yet, but plan to, then we'll see.

The problems continue, so now I am getting my motherboard replaced. Turns out this has not been a PT issue at all, but rather a PC issue....

Erratic issues are often a sign of motherboard starting to go.

Is this the one that took a lightening strike? Just curious.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
