Hello:
I have RB 2011, build 4. Windows XP, SP3
This version of RB will NOT regenerate part of a track for me.
I select the measures I want to regenrate, right click and the select "regenerate track (selected region)"
Sometimes RB simply does nothing and sometimes the hourglass appears for a pretty long time (2 minutes or so) and the part of track AFTER the selected area will be completely erased AND the selected area is not regenerated.
I tried returning to factory settings but it made no difference.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John

Have you tried update 4b and are you using the latest update to BiaB? Recent RB updates urge you to update BiaB too.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

It all depends what you are doing. You can regenerate an RT using either the "Generate" icon and select one of the top two options. Again you can use right click in the Main Tracks Window and select the same two options. Be wary of the song setup - if this is a BIAB importation then use Track > Make all BB tracks regular tracks before experimenting.
I have just tried regeneration of an RT and regenerated five separate audio clips within it. This worked satisfactorily.

I remember this happening a couple times many moons ago. Don't remember what it was though. I think it was something I had set wrong.

Good point LynB. I think if the tracks are BB tracks (a different color than the rest) you do have to use Track - Make BB tracks regular tracks..

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried using the Track menu to convert BB tracks to regular tracks, but it didn't make any difference.
I selected the 4 measures I wanted to regenerate and RB took about 30-45 seconds and then erased everything AFTER the 4 measures I had selected and did not regenerate the 4 measures I had selected.
This freature used to work for me very quickly, especially on a small section like 3 or 4 measures.
I don't know why it's not working now.
Silvertones: Any chance you remember the settings that you changed to get this feature to work?
Thanks. John

BTW which RT are you trying to use? Does it do that for any RT?

OK I think I remember. In order to use the "Regenerate track" feature the name of the track has to be in GREEN lettering. If the name of the track is GREEN like "RT691:Guitar,Acoustic..." then when you rt click and look at the "regenerate track" it WON"T say selected region, it'll say the same as the track name, ie, "regenerate track-Guitar,acoustic...". The track you are trying to do this on is a track that was made before the GREEN feature & is black. You'll see it's black. What you can do cause all of the RTs will be green because of updates is just regenerate the WHOLE thing. At this point it'll now be GREEN and the selected regeneration will work. Also when you change all BB tracks to regular tracks they are BLACK and the "regenerate selected region" won't work. Again you need to regenerate all black tracks in their entirety first.

It doesn't matter which RT I try to regenerate. I've tried it on several with the same result: RB doesn't regenerate the selected measures AND it erases everything after the selected area. Strange behavior.
Thanks.

I think the RB partial track regeneration problem I'm having may have to do with the file I've been using. The file in question was a BIAB file from Feb of 2009 that I opened in RB and then saved as a .SEQ file
I created a new song in RB, generated it, and was able to select a few measures and get them to regenerate.
(by the way, my RT track names always appear in BLUE and when I right click on the track the menu item I click on lists the name of the BB track and also has "(selected region)" listed. I don't know why this is different than what you are seeing.)
I also tried creating a new song in BIAB and opened it RB and I was able get part of those tracks to regenerate.
So, like I said, It may have to do with the particular file, or maybe that it was created in an earlier version of BIAB, but new songs created in BIAB and RB will do a partial regenerate for me.
Thanks to everyone for responding.
John

I just now changed BB tracks to regular tracks and then generated a section. Then I tested an audio track using Realtracks .. both worked as expected. Maybe I'm not following you guys.
My system says "Generate MIDI track" or "Select and generate Realtrack" in the right-click options, no "regenerate track (selected region)" here. Are we talking RB or BiaB?

I've been talking about regenerating a section of a RealTrack in RealBand.
This is where you select a region (say, 4 measures, or whatever you want) and then right click on the track and you get a pretty long menu. Near the bottom it lists an options for "Regenerate Track -- name of track-- (Selected Region)". (I think you will also get some of the same menu if you click on the "Generate" button near the upper right of the screen)
I've been having problems getting RB to regenerate a selected region when I was using a BIAB file from 2009.
I tried creating a NEW BIAB file and opening it in RB as well as creating a NEW song in RB. Both of these files allowed me to generate part of a RealTrack using the method above, so I concluded that the problem was the old BIAB file.
I didn't have to use the Track Menu command "Make all BB tracks regular tracks" before doing this. I'm a little confused why some people mentioned having to do that first.
Thanks. John

John,
My guess is your original file had a tempo change in it somewhere. There is a bug in the 2011 version of RB where songs with tempo changes do not regenerate realtracks properly when just a portion of the song or track is selected for regeneration. The symptom you described where part of the track after the selected area was completely erased is one of the results. Such songs will only regenerate properly if the whole track or song is selected for regeneration.
PG Tech support confirmed this bug back in March, indicated that it was related to the new Elastique feature, and said they will be working on a fix. I contacted them again a few days ago to let them know it is still not fixed. They confirmed that it had not yet been fixed but re-iterated that a fix will be forthcoming in a future update.

Terry:
Ahh! You are right. My original BIAB file has some tempo changes toward the end of the song (although there were no tempo changes in the section I was trying to regenerate). So, that would agree with your description above. Thanks for the information.
I hope PG will be able to fix this problem in a subsequent version of RealBand.
Thanks.
John
