It appears the M-Audio Fastrack recording Interface uses a Mac based format and will not work with Realband 2009.5 on Windows vista
has anyone experienced this and is there any way around this.. problem ?

We're looking into that issue. It affects only the ASIO driver for the m-Audio FastTrack. You might try using the free ASIO4All driver instead (asio4all.com)

If you aren't playing a soft synth in real time just switch to the MME drivers. There is no difference in sound.

When I switch to MME drivers in Biab it sounds wack ! I have a M-Audio Mobile Pre , and I have problems with RB . It only plays one beat (at a time) then stops or it freezes and I task manager it closed . I have only just now tried RB for the first time ,but have used Biab since 2004 . 3gig p4 3gig ram 2011 biab everything pack installed latest updates to biab and rb win xp sp1

In this situation you might need to re-open Band-in-a-Box after switching from ASIO to MME (or vice versa).

The thing I don't like about those free drivers.. is that you are forced to install this other software like Driver Detective which I do not want and you have to pay for.
If there is a direct link to a free driver with no strings attached then I do not know about it.. but thanks for the suggestions.
The MME drivers seem to work but I'm not sure I can record in real time.

If the page is trying to force you to install driver detective you are downloading from the wrong place. Go to here and click the appropriate link. I used the first one. http://www.asio4all.com/

Of course you can record in real time. These drivers are actually WDM drivers.
