I'm looking to find a decent video editor that will allow me to mix video and audio. Do you have one in particular that you would recommend?
TIA

ya, what scott said. if you want more free options try: http://www.videohelp.com/ an awesome source of video tutorials and general technical information. look under "authoring" for dozens of free video editor apps, some will rival the best commercial packages out there. cya in the movies!

here's a trial d/l of camtasia but i don't know what the trial is limited to. the full version is a bit pricy ~us$300. http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia/ i'll look for a free clone and post back later today. i find windows movie maker to be somewhat limited in video effects such as kewl transitions but if you want to put something together today then you can't beat movie maker with its short learning curve, excellent! fellow forum member "furry" does some great clips for youtube. i hope he weighs in on this thread.

bob, the transitions and titles are very professional. nice job! that's what i find lacking in mm although it (mm) is very easy to learn and you can't beat the price, it's free with windows. you can d/l the latest version from m$. was imovie part of your mac os or an additional app/$?

Hey Don,
Thanks. Yes, iMovie comes standard with the Mac OS. For 2011, they have added a lot of new features.

OP, i d/l'd the camtasia demo and it appears to be un-crippled with a 30-day free trial. wow, you'll be squatin' in cotton. it creates pip, interactive menus, great transitions, flash movies, imports most formats into your project, narration tools, etc. i plan to use it on my current project, my speech therapist's wedding. it's 368 photographs taken by a professional photog, no culls at all. thanks to dan for the steer (not bovine). if you'd like to preview its features: http://video.techsmith.com/camtasia/3/ed...=&redirver=i found a free, open source clone called camstudio, but the caveat is, it don't play nice with chrome or firefox without a work-around that can be found on their site. the next release will address that problem. here is the current version that is designed around msie: http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudi...29.exe/download

I'm using WinXP and I believe MM v.2.0 is the last one that is available for it.
Unfortunately MM is the only software on my computer (out of dozens and dozens) that crashes without fail each session.
It's simply unusable for me.

Thanks I'll check out the link. I did a Google yesterday and downloaded the following apps:
VirtualDub VirtualEdit WAX DDCL223 Zweifull plus a few others
None of them were intuitive. I couldn't get any of them to mix a video clip with audio.
None of them were intuitive. I couldn't get any of them to mix a video clip with audio.
microsoft's movie maker will do that in a heartbeat, biabguy. nice thing is, win xp comes with mm. you should find it in "accessories" iirc. if you can't find it, go to this link and d/l it for nada: http://download.cnet.com/Windows-Movie-Maker-Windows-XP/3000-13631_4-10165075.htmlunfortunately, i'm using the windows 7 version or i could share some screen shots with you. i'm quite familiar with mm. your question prompted me to do some checking and, consequently, i found "lightworks," it's free after registering. however, i don't think it'll run in xp, it's a monster application. please let me know if i can help you in any way. i'm quite fluent in your language. lol

OK, red flag... Of all the movie making programs I've tried, Windows movie maker is by far the least resource hog. If WMM crashes and burns, I'd say there's a high lkelihood that other video programs may have problems too... compounded by the extra memory etc they require.
You may want to contact microsoft to see if you/they can determine why WMM crashes all the time. I agree with the others that WMM is probably the easiest way to get started.
Even if you don't want to use WMM, anything you learn about why it crashes will probably help you use other video programs more efectively.

I have an older version of Vegas (4.0 Pro) and i have always loved it. From what i can see Vegas has several versions today check here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegassoftwareFor Windows Vegas is hard to beat, maybe the beginner version for starters and use some later upgrade path.

You may be correct but I don't think so. It's a very old version and I have read about many people having problems with it.
I just downloaded and tried Camtasia and it works without a hitch on my same system. So......
