I've only ever used WMM too.

While it is very easy and intuitive to use, I have found that when fancy transitions are inserted, the timing goes haywire.

But this could well be just my lack of competence as a user of this piece of software

I have Pinnacle Pro. Learning curve is steep. Works well.

Audio sample rate must match, and that took some time to figure out.

i started a video project in 'lightworks' last night. here's what i found so far: it is a very professional-quality video editor. the gui looks like a hollywood movie production studio. user-programmable buttons for frequent tasks. all sub-windows float and can be dragged around main project screen. impressive audio/narrator features. on the negative side...it will not import .wmv files although it will import most popular file formats. i converted to .avi but it lost its crystal clarity. another negative is...it's not very intuitive, not something you can be instantly productive with although the documentation is abundant. it does have a full-time wizard that guides you through every step of the project if you understand the esoteric terminology, i don't. all told, i'm favorably impressed and looking forward to working with it today. very helpful and responsive forums. i highly recommend it to serious biab users.

So true, Don. Who does understand that terminology except pro videographers? Exactly the same point we have to make here sometimes with users who know very little music terminology. I was on a friends machine some time ago and he was showing me Sony Vegas Studio. Beautiful program but we were going through myrid filters that do apparently wonderful things and I had no clue what they were talking about.

Vegas is very good, but it's a lot of bucks unless you're doing the lighter versions. A while back I got into Movie Edit Pro and it's been really powerful-

MEP 17HD for a mere 60 bucks is, well, unbelievable. Nothing light about it- full blown powerhouse. In many respects, it completely blows Vegas away and I like Vegas a ton. Good luck- video is a tall order if you have no experience with it. Be patient, hang in there.

Thanks Dan. I took a peek at the site for MEP.

I'm scratching my head though.
What the heck would you need
"32 tracks for picture and sound" for?

I'm a 'one track for video, one track for sound' type of guy.

Use as little or as much as you need. If you're into making films, tracks can add up in a hurry. Picture, dialogue, foley tracks, music score tracks, effects tracks. The bigger the project, the more you'll need. You don't think commercial movies are two tracks do you?

But if two tracks floats your boat....

If you are working with stills, Photostory is the way to go. Its a free DL from Microsoft. My videos on YouTube are all made using Photostory.

Interesting Flatfoot. So if there are only stills you're saying that Photostory is a better tool than WMM?

just finished my video project for my speech therapist's wedding consisting of 368 still and a soundtrack done entirely in band-in-a-box. i ended up using a combination of software, lightworks; windows movie maker; camtasasia studio 7 demo; taking advantage of the strengths of each. christine will see/hear it today so that will be the litmus test.

Check out Corel's VideoStudio Pro X4. (It was Ulead in the past) $49 special going at present. It has multiple video channels, seperate voice and music channels, transitions etc. Too much to mention, very easy to use. Also uses SmartSound Automusic which can provide background musical themes. I love it (also for the price!)

I've also used Ulead Movie products in the past with good success. Same with Nero and Adobe, although the last two seem to require heavy resource use.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Flatfoot,

In Photo Story 3, what is the best way of setting the duration of each photo so that is comes in at the desired time on the music track?

I would have PMed you this question, but your answer may be of interest to other Photo Story users or potential users.

Thanks,

Marc
