For the iPod app to work, you have to have BIAB2011 and must set up your computer as a BIAB server (so it has to sit on the internet and turned on). Basically the app sends your computer a command across the internet to generate a song based on the information provided, which it does, and then sends back to you an audio rendering of that song (basically the accompaniment tracks). As long as your ipod has wi-fi internet connectivity, you should be able to use it. If you haven't set up your BIAB computer properly, however, all you can do is run the little demo on the iPod.

At least that's how I understand it to work.
