Hello All,
I've been incorporating some B3 RTs in a couple of songs, both a and b parts. It seems that the backing tracks crescendo beautifully for a bar or so but then the B3 seems to drop out completely. Other times the exact opposite- a crescendo when I don't need it. Having never played with an organist, my experience is very limited, but the chord voicings (if that's the right expression) aren't very smooth.
I tried applying a constant gain effect but no luck. Any way to remedy this?
All suggestions greatly appreciated.
Percy

I agree. The organ volumes should be evened out a little. Later, Ray

Percy,
Sometimes a part marker will change things up with the B3. If that doesn't help, try using the PG Peak limit in the Audio DX effects and see if that helps smooth it out.

Trax,
Thanks for the help. I've tried just about everything. The fundamental problem is that some of the chords just don't resolve properly. The tune I'm working on has a lot of am7 to d7 progressions and instead of resolving the traditional 1/2 step, they are all over the place.
I don't usually spend this much time on a tune, but this one can salvage an otherwise lousy set. LOL.
I have an SC-88 and went to my higher patches and found a very good sounding rotary organ to augment the Hammond.

I use the B3 styles to accompany me when I play my EWI 4000s. I've had no problems with II-IV chords. Sure the organ plays a lot chords with upper functions. It all sounds normal to me, much the same as if I were playing keyboard. Most of the 7th chords are played with #9s, 13ths and #11s. If your ears aren't used to these chords then they will sound wrong to you. Make sure you turn off the button to embellish the chords. If you're an accomplished keyboardist then maybe you have some corrupted files. Later, Ray

Take it to RB and use the piano roll and you can change the volume to any area of any kind of midi or audio track. Just draw an envelope where you want it and the volume will follow . I do the same thing on the organ tracks where then get a little loud . I never knew it was there until I set options to under the general tab /toolbar buttons have text. Very easy to do pan there too ! Aux sends are there also!

First of all, Am to D7 resolves to G, not a half step. That's what most of us think of as a 2-5-1 in the key of G. What's a "traditional 1/2 step"? Still, your chord changes may not do that anyway. If you put in Am-D7 and enter the next chord as a Db, that's what Biab will play including the B3 RT. It's not going to resolve it and play the G automatically for you. If you write in Am7-D7-G, that's what will play. We just went round and round about this in another thread and the guy never posted the details of his complaint in spite of several requests to do so including one from Peter. If you can, post the Biab song on a website so you can post the link to it here. If you can't do that then post the style, key sig, tempo, chord changes and instruments you're using both midi and RT's so we can load it into Biab and see what's up. Or, you can send me a PM, I'll give you my email address and you can send it to me.
Just thought of something. Did you mute the bass track? The jazz B3 RT's includes the bass pedals, if you don't mute the bass track, you could be hearing a conflict between the style's bass and the organ's bass pedals. The blues B3 RT doesn't include the pedals, another reason we need to know exactly what you're doing.

Gentlemen,
Lots of great information. Really appreciate it.
Ray and Bob,
The Am7 and D7 fall on the 1st and 3rd beat of one bar. Sometimes the Am7 is played in the upper register and the D7 then comes in an octave lower, which just seems very abrupt to me. Other times not.
So when I play these notes of an Am7 on the piano- E G A C, the 1/2 step resolution I was referring was the G to F# and the E to D is of course a whole step. Sorry about that. And I of course had no idea the B3 includes a bass pedal. No wonder things sounded muddy!
The B3 sound is so rich and full, I will indeed look at all the RTs.
Tommy-
I thought the piano roll was just for midi and it will be checked out.

Another case of different players referring to certain musical things differently. I agree with your point about one chord may suddenly jump up to a different inversion and sound funny even if it is the correct chord. Sometimes regenerating that track may fix that or changing the chord slightly like make it a basic D instead of a D7 may do it. I'm an organist and I will change inversions or even octaves all the time but of course I'm reacting to the song itself and using my ears. The organist who did the RT's doesn't have that luxury plus when Biab chops up the RT to match your chords you can get all kinds of things that a real player probably would not do at that point in the tune. All we can do is work with what we have, nothing's perfect. The comment about using Real Band is good if you're trying to produce a finished product because in RB you can edit sections of an audio track like that organ part. Somewhere in the tune that chord is probably playing the inversion you want and you can do a copy/paste to replace the chord in the exact place you don't like it.
