Howdy!
I haven't needed to do any editing with MIDI tracks until now. I want to take out a portion of a melody track. I Have no idea where to start. BIAB 2011

From the menu help: All Tracks can be edited and saved - including the melody track.
MIDI tracks for bass, drums, piano, guitar and strings can be edited, and saved with the file. If you freeze a track, edits can be still made to it, because it is only frozen from Band-in-a-Box making changes to it (you can still edit it), so that the MIDI track will be saved to the file. So you can customize the bass part to match a certain song, and save it with a frozen bass part, so that Band-in-a-Box won’t overwrite your edits. This includes RealCharts – if you wanted to edit the notation of a RealTracks solo for example.
To edit a MIDI track (bass, drums, piano, guitar, strings), or the MIDI part of a RealTracks that has a RealChart (MIDI transcribed solo), simply open up the Notation window (or Piano Roll window), and click on the track and edit it.
Or - if you just want to adjust when the melody is played use - F5

Hi Harpster - Assuming by "take out a portion" you want to delete some notes from the melody track, there are several ways. The best way for me is in the piano roll view (rolled up piano keyboard icon). Find and select the notes you want to delete, and press delete.

If that's not what you want to do, please be more specific regarding what you have and what you want to do.

If you want it to be permanently deleted: Go to: Edit-From/Thru and select the bar #'s and uncheck everything except the melody box there, then click "ok."
You can use F5 to call up bar settings. Go to the bar # and hit F5, select melody in the menu and mute it. Go the bar # where you want it to play again, if at all, click F5/bar settings/melody/back to normal.

In BIAB menus, click Help/Menus. When the Help window opens type "piano roll" and "Piano Roll Tutorial" will be at the top of the list. Click that, and read on.
Spend some time with the help files. Many answers are there. Plus, just about every dialog in BIAB has a Help button that will take you directly to the Help for that subject.
Also - check here for BIAB videos.

i have played with the piano roll midi editing for a couple hours and and am now on the right track, and the help files as well.
