Hi All!
I finally did it!
I've upgraded my "BIAB 2007" program to the awesome "BIAB 2011.5 UltraPlusPak"!
I have been using the 2007 program generally for practicing tunes that I planned on playing with a live band, generally to familiarize myself with changes, work on tempos, try new arrangements, etc. But now I see there's a whole new world of options with the expansion of "RealTracks", and "RealDrums" (not to mention the tons of other new features available)!!
I have quite a few questions regarding 2011.5, but I'll take it slow and only ask one at a time.
Scenario:
I originally downloaded BIAB 2011.5 along with the "RealTracks" and "RealDrums" to my C: Drive. I then copied the "complete BIAB program to an external hard drive (I also have "BIAB 2007" on my C: drive).
After the program was completely installed, I went to the Opt. > Preference menu and redirected the "RealTracks" and "RealDrums" folders to the external hard drive to save space on my C: Drive. This went without a hitch, thank goodness!
So now I want to run BIAB 2011.5 froom my external hard drive, and completely get rid of any BIAB files on my C: Drive.
Before I do this, are there any other changes I need to make in "Preferences" before I completely delete BIAB 2011.5 from my C: Drive?

Love the avatar.
Congratulations on upgrading. It's an amazing difference from 2007, isn't it?
I would like to say, no problem erasing the /BB folder on drive C, but why don't you just run it from the external drive for awhile to be sure? Make a desktop shortcut to the /BB/bbw.exe file on your external drive.
When you installed BIAB on your drive C, it did install fonts that are needed. These are not in the /BB folder so they would not be deleted if you blew away that folder, but just so you know, you technically do not want to get rid of "everything BIAB" on drive C.
Basically, what you are doing is creating a manual version of what one of the four installation options does. If you have any doubts, why not just call PG Music Support and talk it through with them? Or, post your exact intended steps here for us to review.
You probably haven't made many customizations yet, but there is a nice new feature that allows you to save them. If you do Opt., Return to Factory Settings, you will be asked if it is a full or partial restore, then you will now be prompted to save your current settings. I would encourage you to run BIAB from the external drive, set any customizations, and then do this command, to save your settings.
One other point. The great bulk of the file size for the BIAB program is in the RealTracks folder, and somewhat less in the RealDrums folder. You already have these on your external drive (as do many of us). What remains in the /BB folder on Drive C is a very large number of files, but most are comparatively small. Leaving those alone would not be so bad. If you did the install routine to place the RealTracks and RealDrums on the external drive, then you still have /BB/RealTracks and /BB/RealDrums folders in C:/BB, but they contain only two small 'pointer' files each, telling BIAB where to look for the rest of those large files.

Thanks Matt!
Yea, Miles is one of my all time heroes of music!
Thanks for the info. It helps a lot.
Don't even ask me why I'm even going through the burden of trying to figure all this stuff out, because tomorrow I'll be recieving BIAB 2011.5 UltraPakPlus preinstalled USB Drive!
I guess I'm so excited that I'm a bit overzealous about this incredible program!
I may, or may not use any of the info you gave because when I recieve the BIAB USB Drive I should erase the whole program from my system anyway right?
I do have some tunes from my BIAB 2007 program that I'll want to save, but as far as the 2011 program, I haven't even created any tunes on it to save yet.
Right now I'm just trying to watch as many tutorials as possible on the new program. Any suggestions on that? That could be helpful at any point.
Thanks again, Matt!
You'll hear from me soon!

I use the USB drive as my back up. I install everything to the C drive and put that USB drive in a drawer. If I was you I'd do that unless space is a problem. It's only abt 45 Gig.If you don't have the space I'd make the space somehow. I have a 160G drive on my Toshiba and I have plenty left over.

Hi Silvertones!
I see.
Just like the suggestion in the tutorial "Downloading and Installing the UltraPakPlus" states:
"When you're finished, you may wish to back up / archive your download folder.
For example, you could copy it to a portable USB hard disk - this gives you a backup of the files on a different disk, and also gives you back the 40 GB of disk space on your working hard drive."
So what I'm going to do is erase the whole program from my system, Renstall it again, from my USB Drive to my extra "External Hard Drive". That way I have saved space on all my internal drives on my computer.
Does that sound practical?

A month or so ago someone asked Peter what was "the best" way to install Biab. He said if you have the space the best way is to install everything including all the RT/RD's onto your C drive. You haven't given us the spec's of your PC so if it's a bit old with a small, full hd then sure these programs will run fine from the external drive, but if you have lots of space on your hd, then install everything there.

Harpo, the title of the post makes it sound like you bought a new computer and decided to upgrade at the same time. Is that the case? Or do you mean you are moving TO the newer version on an existing computer? I ask that only because there has been mention of hard drive space, and new computers these days come with BIG hard drives so there would be no space issues at all.

In case it is of any help to anyone, I install the program to Drive C, but install the RealTracks and RealDrums to Drive E, a second hard drive in my system.
Then I put the external hard drive supplied from PG Music away for safekeeping.

Same here, Matt. I would never execute through a USB port. Though I know programs run in the RAM on a computer, the load times as you access the store drive suffers via that SLOW USB port. Every time you want to preview a style and have to go through USB to the external storage... etc....

Hi Guys
I have a fairly new PC that was custom built for digital audio.
I have 3 hard drives on my PC (2X 300GB and 1 500GB). My C: Drive has over 250GB with the BIAB main program installed. My D: Drive (for the storage of Samples only)has only about 140GB left. And my E: Drive (for Audio)has 360GB of space left.
I also have an I: Drive(External hard drive) that I use to back up all my projects that are on my PC. That has about 270GB left on it.
So as you can see, space is not an issue really.
I have a home studio, and use pro equipment, and I really look to the future a lot in terms of what I might need down the road. So, this is why I'm very conscious of what I install and where.
So right now my main BIAB program files are on my C: Drive and my RealTracks and RealDrums are on my I: Drive. Everything seems to load very quickly with this configuration so I think I'm going to leave things the way they are now. If I run into any issues down the road I think I'll follow Silvertones' setup. That sounds very practical to me.
Thanks everyone for your help! This is one of the best forums I've experienced in a while!!
