Check the system sliders again sometimes multiple levels. Try Audacity and record to that and see if it is working. Normally I pre amp the vocal until it starts to clip and back it off, the only difference is I use Behringer gear to line in from line out on the mixer(s).
Make sure mic is all the way down on the system sliders, and the line in is up. If you still have problems post your gear, computer and signal chain and one of the tech nerds will jump in, I am just a semi nerd and re-tired.
