I just installed the BB Remote app, and it's working fine. The installation was very easy: start the BB2Go Server in BIAB (Windows menu) and then, in the iPhone app, select File, Server, Connect. As long as you are on a local wireless network, that's all it takes (there are other instructions for use outside your network).

Note: it asked me for a password to connect to the server. I did not know what to enter there, but there was a default entry and I just pressed OK, and it connected. After that, it does not ask for the password when you connect (such as after you have exited the app). I have since learned (by watching the video) that the default password is: admin

After I've played with the functions some more, I'll give an update.

I keep the computer with BIAB in a different room down the hall from the studio. I have been using a Frontier Design Tranzport for remote control. The Tranzport is no longer marketed (nor available anywhere, it seems), and I was wondering what I would do when it finally stopped working. Now I have my answer. I also have the answer why Frontier Design declined to manufacture this any longer: it would seem they recognized that the ubiquitous iPhone/iPad app would quickly destroy their market.

One thing I really like is that they included the Replay command in the BIAB Remote app. This was an omission in the Transport implementation; pressing Play caused a delay while the song regenerated (and if you are in another room, you have no idea what is happening). However, I had discovered an undocumented command, Shift+Play, that caused a Replay. On the new BIAB Remote app, no such workaround is needed because the Replay icon is already there. Smart.

Another really handy remote control function is the ability to alter the song tempo.

I think I'm really going to like this.

Thanks Matt,
One thing I noticed is that BB Remote sometimes disconnects, and when then happens you need to reconnect (File-Server-Connect). We plan to automate that in a future (free) patch of BB Remote on iPhone app store.

Right, the default password is admin. You can customize it in the BandInABoxServer.exe options dialog.
Very few people would need to use a password, but if we didn't have one, it would mean that someone else could control your desktop BBW. BB Remote can connect via wifi or WAN (through your router). There aren't many examples I can think of where someone would have wifi access to your net, and be messing with your BB - maybe a spouse who wants to turn BB down without needing to ask you to do it <G>). The other app that we have (Band-in-a-Box for iPhone is more commonly used through a router, so that one needs a password to prevent anyone from using it - generating songs on their iPhone using your desktop BB to do it - if they knew your IP)

Thanks for the info.

I have not had a problem with it disconnecting.

After changing the password (before I read your reply!), I had a bit of trouble with BB Server aborting (Windows offered to see if it could fix it; did nothing, and then I had my first BSOD in 18 months). After restarting, I then had trouble with connecting; it would say the server could not be found, and the server would disappear from the tray. I then rebooted both the PC and the iPhone and everything seems to be working fine again with the new password.

The only other change I had done in the interim was to set the server to load upon Windows loading.

I haven't tried it yet, only with my own wireless LAN, so I don't know.
