Hi Pat We don't HAVE to load AIFF files via QuickTime. We just do it because we use QuickTime to load other flavors of audio files and it makes sense to load everything the same way. If for some reason Lion has broken AIFF load, we can (and have in the past) load AIFF without QuickTime. PG Music has several Lion installs, purchased via AppStore like I think all or most Lion installs have happened so far. IOW, upgrade installs. I read that Apple intends to shortly start selling Lion on a thumbdrive. I've been waiting to get one of those so I can install a test system "clean" without anything legacy tagging along from MacOS 10.6. Either that or buy a new mac with Lion pre-installed, though an expensive option. In other words, I'd like to be able to test on a "pure" Lion to make sure of what is going on and what a "pure vanilla" Lion ought to be capable of. Rob in Tech Support did good web-research on this yesterday and recovered a few reports of similar problems. It seems doubtful that all of the PG test computers have previously installed Flip-4-Mac, but my systems have had Flip-4-Mac installed. I'm pretty sure the functions we call are not Flip-4-Mac dependent, or MANY 10.5 and 10.6 customers would have seen the problem, because it is doubtful that they would ALL have installed Flip-4-Mac. So it may be possible that uninstalling Flip-4-Mac or other actions could mess up a Lion quicktime install (as alleged in the following user report)-- This report shows the same crash log error you got, but the user got it from trying to use QuickTimePlayer. ==== Rob's message ==== Found 2 people who had done the same action and gotten the same error. Upgraded to Lion and removed Flip4Mac which apparently removes important quicktime components by mistake. Flip4Mac is a video converter to be able to deal with WMV on a Mac. Could our customer have done this? ___________________________________________________________________ Link (dyld) error: Symbol not found: the problem was solved by reinstalling Flip4Mac - when I had un-installed it, the uninstaller had removed vital elements of Quicktime. ____________________________________________________________________________________ https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3211124 Any help would be greatly welcome. I installed lion the other day everything worked fine. so i removed flip4mac and now the old quicktime just opens and quits. this happens with imovie as well giving me the same error.but final cut x works. I reinstalled lion the other day thinking this would fix it it does not. I have a feeling it has to dow with the old qt framework based on the error. Well this is maddening! No matter what I try it still crashes when normalize is checked. How do you reinstall quicktime. The apple site only allows a download of Quicktime 7 (old version). There MUST be others having this problem

Hi Pat It is an annoying problem. I don't know the best way to proceed. If there is something corrupted, then perhaps a Lion Restore would fix the corruption? But perhaps a Lion Restore is too extreme a step and something less radical would work fine? Dunno. Here is apple's doc on Lion Restore-- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718Would a new purchase of Lion presumably have warranty tech support for 90 days or whatever? Might be worth asking apple what to do? Is there an apple store in your vicinity? I don't have an apple store close to me, so that has never been an option to consider. If there were an apple store close and if I could dump it in their laps under warranty and get it fixed free-- That would be fabulous. Because I'm not near a store, I'd at least call apple and see if they have any advice. They are geniuses after all.

Wow the 4 Mac users sure can get worked up. Actually because everything is so perfect in the Mac world you don't get a lot of messages. In fact Apple does not need a support department, but for the few who work there I'll give you a glimpse into the world of Mac support.
Good Morning (in a voice speaking very quickly), you have reached the secret bunker of assistance in your feeble attempt to make our perfect equipment not function because you are a moron, this message will be listened to by big daddy to ensure quality and training blah blah press 1 for I broke my computer. press 2 for I'm a moron and can't find my on switch press 3 for the Apple happy store nearest you press 4 for no apparent reason press 5 if you are frustrated, and then hang up.
(Voice) How can Steve help you. I see, so your apple book mac thingy was on top of your woody and you drove away and now it's scattered over route 1. Have you tried crazy glue? What version of the o/s were you running, Perfect Lion 1.0, More Perfect Lion 1.1 or The Current Version, "The Most Perfect Yet seen Lion 1.2, there were no reported mistakes or problems kids, lets be honest, we just added enhancements so you can actually use the equipment better. Ok, so I'm sorry, we cannot help you without your authorized user tag, and the part of the machine with the uber secret date of production serial code.

Dear John,
I hope you do realize that your anti-apple rhetoric is growing tiresome very fast.
Best regards,

OK. I have reinstalled Lion and reinstalled Flip4Mac. I STILL have the crashing problem when rendering audio with Normalize checked. This is VERY disappointing! Has ANYONE found a way to fix this problem??

Hello, This problem is incredibly rare as you can see below in the google search. http://www.google.ca/#sclient=psy&hl...920&bih=975perhaps if you look through the threads as I did you may notice something I did not. As you can see there is not too many of them. I think you were on the right track but you installed what may be the problematic program Flip4Mac again. Even if you removed some of it's files the F4M program seems to integrate itself into quicktime a little bit so it is unlikely you were able to remove all of it manually. In my research the unfortunate conclusion of the people with this error as you can read in my link is that once it happens it does not seem to be fixable with an update or erasing some files or un-installing a program. What it seems to come down to is this core part of quicktime is missing or is in an unexpected location. Below is basically a summary of steps that some users took to get it cleared up correlated to what you would do with Band-in-a-Box. _________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Back up important data. Format the drive (wipe it clean) do a clean install of Lion, not an upgrade install from Snow leopard if possible. Check with apple support based on the disc you have as to whether or not this is possible if necessary. 2. Do not install Flip4Mac until you can get Band-in-a-Box rendering. 3. Run all apple software updates in the apple drop down menu until it is done, restart as requested. (Lion is supposed come equipped with Quicktime X (My Lion machine will not even let me install quicktime 7 because I already have version 10 or X) 4. Open quicktime player and play a sample movie, make sure it works. Check it's version (it should be 10.1 <501>) do not install any other quicktime manually let apple do the updates for you as in step 3. 5. Install and launch Band-in-a-Box and try to use OSX Core Audio -> Choose Ports -> Apple DLS 6. Generate a RealStyle and render with Normalize checked. Rob. PG Music Support.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
