I don't know if you realize, those controls are still in 2011.5.

There is one new feature from the mixer that is interesting, and that is the combo panning. With one control, you can widen or narrow the stereo mix of all instruments that are not panned in the center.

There may be other new features like that, but even if there are not, like John, I really like the easier control the new mixer gives you.
