The tracks now show red when recording but it needs to show the waveform so as to monitor the levels,
i thinks most audio apps do that.

Thanks.

That would be nice, not all do that but a lot do. I would love that as well.

Remember though that adjusting volume while recording can be difficult with a simple wave form to judge adjustments by.

Use it to get the initial level by recording a small bit, you strum the guitar or vocal as loud as as you are going to play or sing and adjust the input level so you don't have hot audio, then delete it and start recording, then you can monitor if it goes hot to start again, rather than record the whole take only to find it is hot in places.

Why would you not use the VU meter for that?

I hear them before you ask them lol.

It gives you a history at a glance, you can't stare at the VU meters while playing an instrument on singing
to capture a split second where the audio might go hot.
If you miss it then you will see it only after you have recorded the whole track in the wave form
how it is now.
Where as with the wave form being draw as you record you can't go wrong.

I'm just trying to make things easier not more difficult.

VU meter needs a red light that stays on if clipped (till reset )and a indicator saying how much it went over by. It would be very easy to set volumes for recording this way.

Actually the best way I have found is to record a good signal but not anywhere near the clipping point. Keep the signal near -6 db then if you need a boost later in volume there are aaplethora of ways to do that.

I understand what you want with the wave file, and it is not a bad idea, but actually watching that is not different from watching a meter, and let's be honest far less accurate. It is also after the fact as well. the wave file will not show even at the same time it is always a slight bit later than real time. So whatever you see is already recorded.

The very best method is a quick run thru, and then set so you do not clip.

I've seen this in other DAWs and my first thought was 'how many resources is that taking?'
Maybe if it was optional (?) I've learned over the years that graphics are one of the spots that can cause issues with some systems.. PGProducts have been really good so far at keeping themselves working on both older and newer systems.

Robh sometimes my levels are all over the place and I frequently close my eyes while playing. Don't want to record too low of a level cause bringing it up also brings up the noise of my tube amp and lose the dynamics I wanted . I usually beat on my guitar moving sliders up till producing -1 approx. I looked at how many megs were being used in my old DAW when it recorded ,23.4 meg more while drawing rather than just play back.
