John - I too have the "hidden"window - usually mine is related to the RT selector - occasionally.
As with you, I find the Alt-Tab, brings it out front.
Pat - I too wish PG would make our lives easier by getting rid of the "modal" aspect to error windows, or give priority to a couple of shutdown procedures to override the error and enable a "clear memory" and a program reboot.
I'm still waiting for a Harmonizer fix for 2011.5 RB.
