Hmmm...

When you install Windows 7, the initial user you set up is supposed to be the administrator and if you turn UAC off, you can do pretty much anything. I've installed Win7 multiple times on multiple machines and never had that problem.

Did you install an anti-virus software that might be preventing you from doing tasks. Just a thought.

If other apps install fine, but Firefox doesn't, then I would try downloading it again just to make sure the installation file isn't corrupt. Also, if it doesn't install after that try right clicking on the installation file and select "Install as administrator".

Also, be sure to let your computer do all the Windows updates and get yourself to Service Pack 1. Many of us here have found Windows 7 to be pretty rock solid, much the way Windows XP ultimately was (because XP had a pretty rocky start much like Vista did, but we seem to forget that).
