Hello BrainTrust/BrainTrustees

Yesterday I opened a BIAB SGU file, from the RB "Open". It was a full song from BIAB with frozen RTs and midi tracks, part markers, as well as 6 tempo changes rimmed in red as it is in the BIAB Chord Window.

The file regenerated just fine in RB. When I opened the RB Chord Window I saw that there were two "red-rimmed" part markers where I had placed tempo changes in the BIAB Chord Window - but the other 4 tempo changes were missing from the RB Chord Window . . . All of the tempo changes were in the Tempo windows though.

The weirdness is - I have never before noticed a red-rimmed part-marker in the RB Chord Window.
Was this a new feature I missed??? I looked all morning to see if I could locate an option for allowing that to happen, or an option way to allow me to put in the missing 4 tempo changes. No Luck.

Is this a viable feature, or a bug? Is it familiar to anyone?

My own thoughts are "What a great idea to have the BIAB Chord Window/WorkSheet transferred in total to the RB Chord Window." Yes?

Cheer - Ian

Yes, cool idea, not sure what happened with the red tempo changes; never tried to do the tempo changes in BiaB.

My question - what version are you using? Many are having issue with generating Realtracks in RB if there is any tempo change at all lately. Is it an older version? Or are we learning that you can bring in tempo changes fom Biab but not create them in RB ..
The problem is with generating Realtracks; did you do only MIDI? This caught my attention!

Hi Bob - just read your response.
BIAB is my 1 Chorus sketch pad. Some of my part-markers are usually where I do tempo changes.
I use both Midi and RTs in BIAB - if I like something I freeze it - again midi and RT.
I save as - SGU. Being slightly distrusting, I also save my RTs from BIAB as Audio files.

Then what I did yesterday, I closed BIAB and I opened RealBand . . . .none of this "Drag to DAW" . . . and I opened the SGU file. And as I said above everything was there - all 6 tempo changes.

How the red-rimmed part-markers happened - I have no idea? Maybe I'll test it after this current mix is in the can.

Hopefully we'll hear from others too - 1 way or the other.

Ian

PS I'm using all of the recent builds for BIAB and RB

PPS The only regenerating I do is not in midi but if I add another RT

The other thing I do - because I like to rename tracks and move them around - I change all BB Tracks to normal tracks.

Ian, you generated with tempo changes and it worked? What you posted may be very helpful to development.

If your versions are current, have you done the 'erase un-needed files' thing and are using the newer Elastique engine?
Or still running 'old-school'?

You sound like you just generated realtracks with tempo changes incorporated, and a lot of us are struggling with that in RB right now..

An important thing to remember - my RTS were Frozen in BIAB, then appeared to generate into RB with the rest of the file - including my vocal.

Since I saved and Froze the RTs as wavs in BIAB - I have to check if the frozen generation is the same as the saved audio wav.

I will check tomorrow, and then I will try to regenerate a new RT and see what happens with the 6 tempo changes in RB.

Ian

PS - No, I ahve not gotten rid of the +/- files but I do have new engine.

My CPU is a single core 2.4 Intel with 2.5 RAM.

I tried a song here that had a tempo chang and a frozen RT.
1. I don't get any red boxes at the tempo change
2. the tempo change shows in the Tempo window
3. The tempo change occurs
4. The RT changes tempo
5. The frozen RT does regenerate but not sure if it's the same as the frozen.

Rharv,
No struggle with tempo changes in RB at all EXCEPT if there is a tempo change, and you want to replace part of a RT, when you try to highlight part of a track say 4 measures it'll do the RT for 4 measures but adds a few measures of silence after. Not a problem unless you are trying to do this in the middle of a track that already has a RT on it because it puts in those bars of silence. Just to clarify.

Morning John

I did some checking this morning on frozen BIAB Tracks as well as the same tracks saved as BIAB "wav".
1. The frozen as you found regenerated in RB as it was frozen in BIAB.
2. I know this because I imported the same frozen track as I saved it as a wave file in BIAB.
3. Both files - frozen and saved wav - are identical in RB.

When you imported the BIAB file, John, did you use the "drop" or did you use the "open" in the File menu???
I used the "open SGU".

Could that make a difference in what's transferred to RB. Since I only use PG Products, I am old school in transferring to RB - no drag and drop.

Now I'm gonna try generating an RT from within my RB SEQ that has 6 tempo changes, as well a portion of an RT across several changes. And see if I get any blank bars.

I can confirm that there is a bug when trying to regenerate X number of bars in a file with 6 tempos.

1. I have a Brent Solo - full track beginning to end - 6 tempo changes.
2. Decided to regenerate bars 38 to 47.
3. Bars regenerated OK, but everything after bar 47 just disappeared.
4. Is that because of the multi-tempos??
5. Undo Generate restored the original track.

1. Created a full Brent solo track with the multi tempo changes
2. Tried to replace 9 bars and it regenerated the 9 bars - then left 1 bar after the regen
3. But the rest of the track disappeared.

Obviously there is an "insert" bug when it comes to reading multi-tempo changes.

This is a reported issue that I've yet to get a response.

I use the open command. D&D takes 20 minutes to complete. Always has even on my new computer. I've reported this also but.............

Ian,

Doesn't have to be multiple tempo changes for this to happen. This bug will crop up with even one tempo change inserted in a song. And as John indicated in a different post, it will also occur even if the sole "tempo change" message inserted is at the *same* tempo as the original tempo of the song.

Thanks Terry for the heads up.
This experience I was detailing was from RB2011.5 Build 4.

I think tomorrow I'm going back to 2011 (4) and see how much of a difference the 2011.5 upgrade made in causing this problem. I'll use the current 6 tempo SEQ just to see.

Cheers - Ian

Ian, I can tell you from my own experience that you will find the same problem in any version of RB 2011 and 2011.5 that has been issued so far. Before I purchased the 2011 (and then the 2011.5) version, I was running RB 2010 (not 2010.5), and this problem did not exist with that version. For me it only cropped up near the end of December when I purchased 2011. I think the problem is related in some way to Elastique, which was introduced with the 2011 version.

Discovered for myself that the problem was still in 2011.

Terry I think you're right - it may be tempo conflicting with the new stretch engine. It will do the whole track of tempo changes, but not a regenerated insert - beyond me when it comes to "all-gory-ythms".

But then you guys know the problems with 2011 too.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
