The subject says it all. I'm trying to punch in an area and it isn't keeping the take. Bug or me?

Works fine for me.Make sure to click on the punch in button and check enable. Also I use the drop down 7choose settings from main tool bar. Close the thing, highlight the section & hit record. Pay attention to the messages that come on after and answer correctly.

Checked with most recent build, definate issue. May not be same as yours.
I highlited a mono audio track (track 7), enabled punch-in, then selected 'use from-thru' from main toolbar (is this what you missed Russ?) Also, you have to check the 'enable' box (we didn't used to have to do that a few versions back)
Then hit record, it recorded the punched in section .... on track 7 &8!!
8 was not highlited (contains data) and I was on a mono track (7). Gonna see if the 'input for mono track' issue is coming into play. It should NOT overwrite the existing data on track 8. It should write anything new to available blank track.
OK, I had 'input for mono tracks' set to L&R. Changing it to only Left it worked correctly. If set to L&R, and recording onto an existing mono track I don't think RB should assume that I want to record over the next track too. If there is data on the next track I feel RB should not overwrite it, but instead put it on next available blank track. in this scenario.. Thoughts?

Well I hate to say it boys but mine works fine. I have audio on track 9, track 10 is empty & audio on 11. I set the input to L&R and did a punch in. I get 3 questions 1. do you want to keep the take? yes 2. Keep as a punch in? yes 3. You've selected stereo do you want to put the rt track on 11? yes. The audio that was on 11 was moved down to make way for the punch in.

I never saw question 3
"3. You've selected stereo do you want to put the rt track on 11? yes." that you mentioned here.
Update version you are using?

I did it again and here are the exact questions. 1. Keep Take? 2.Punch in was enabled, press yes to keep take as a punch-in, or no if you want to keep the take a whole(non punch in) take 3.You've selected stereo recording. Insert new audio track at track 11 for right channel?
The track 11 will of course change depending on the next track down. Version 4

John, What track did you punch in on? Was it a mono or stereo track?
Could come into play here. I had two mono tracks next to each other. Punched in on the first one and it automaticly put the right side on the next (occupied) track without asking question 3.

Punched in on a mono track. Got question 3. When I said yes it slid the allready occupied track down a track making room for the right channel. So I have two mono punch in tracks side by side. One left one right

OK maybe I didn't quite catch all the info or it wasn't mentioned. When I did my punch in it was to an EMPTY mono track. It then moved the next one down. IF I punch in a couple measures of a track with data then it overwrites the adjacent track and doesn't move down. The latter behavior is what I would expect though. You should never punch in to a mono track from a stereo source.A little odd though that if that mono track is devoid of data it'll move the adjacent track down. Not sure what I think of this.If I disable punch in and just plain record to that empty track that's mono with a stereo source it erases the adjacent track.

Exactly; it's the fact it is erasing the next track that bothers me. I was going to post a pic, but I see now that you see it is behaving the way I described.
It should NOT overwrite another mono track in my opinion. Especially without asking. Not getting that third question is an issue too, IMHO.

Well Bob I can make it behave the way you say but in practice I'd never be doing what makes it behave that way. I would never use a stereo source to do a punch in to an existing mono track. If I'm going to do some sort of addition to the tune and use the punch feature for convenience then I'd do it on an empty track & things move down. IMHO there are a lot of things I guess ways we could make the program falter not using typical practices..

It's something that a user could easily do accidently and end up losing a track; completely ruining the existing track. Seems like it would be worth changing to behave like it did in your first example; if it asked if I wanted to put it on a given track at least my attention would be drawn to it and I could avoid the mistake. That's all. Make it ask that thrid question in this situation instead of just overwriting one of my existing tracks without asking..

That works as long as you notice it! Without the third question, I can see people not noticing it and spending time trying to figure out what happened to their existing track .. and their newly recorded track will be 'undone' too, causing possible loss of a good take.
