Just Dropped $100 for Line 6 guitar port. I am looking to downsize my live gear (aleardy not too large), but thinking I can use this for my BIAB output and also have my Guitar playing with effects all from one unit.

Bought it in a hurry (not like me) since I am packing to travel tomorrow and playing Friday night. Should I just use my live gear and pack a little more or should I open the box to see if it works. Once the box is open no returns..... Anyone using it in a live settign with BIAB on a laptop??

Line 6 says they have Win 7 drivers....

Well, I am packing to travel to the gig and will my taking my old reliable POD2 for guitar effects. Have not opended the box on the Guitar Port as I am not convinced it was work with my BIAB show as I need it to.

I did a lot of research last night and find no clear indication of eactaly how the drivers will or will not work in Win7. Also no green light from BIAB users that it will play alongside BIAB. Not sure Line 6 has marketed this clearly - lots of stuff about on-line services (per fee) and additional addons - Gearbox, PodFarm, Monkey(for managing licensing), and the need for the hardward itself to act as a dongle key, but no clear claims of ASIO or VST support.

So when I return from the road it will go back, unopened.

A quick glance tells me it's software modeling. I use IKMultimedia's Ampeg SVX and Amplitube 3. Works like a charm in XP & Win 7x64. I use it in standalone mode with their Stealh Plug guitar/bass interface. The out of the interface to the PA.

Thanks John, I'll look into that. While I love my JazzMaster Ultra Lite amp and the POD2, it does increase the gear to carry given that I also usually need to pull the PA along too. Hoping with this new super laptop (Dell i7, 6GRam, 126G SSD, 600 G HD) I got I could bring all the amp modeling onboard along with BIAB - but they would all have to play nice together. That would leave me to carry the laptop, Guitar, Mic and PA (also a stoll to sit on, oh and my glasses to see the screen)

Can't the pod2 go to the PA and serve the same purpose of relieving you of the amp to carry?

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Absolutely correct Rharv, and that is how I plan to play tomorrow since the stage is providing PA. I am also bringing a small mixer to put the laptop output (1/8 in to RCA) into along with the POD output (1/4 in to 1/4 in) so the stage only needs to run a 1/4 inch from my mixer to the PA.

It's just the darn new laptop - it is so powerful that I wanted to try even eliminating the POD and having the laptop handle both BIAB and guitar effects, therefore, only one 1/8 in out from the laptop (or in this case might have used the Guitar Port output, either RCA or 1/4)to the PA. But I actually have better things I should be doing with $100 given that my current system is good to go.

All you need to do is go REALLY mobile...I can walk in a gig with my guitar and "gizmos" that will

carry more "sound" than the New York Phil, or Alexander's Rag Time Band!

I use a Line 6 TonePort UX8 with BIAB/RB/Sony and it rocks. From what I can tell from the drivers when they install on my Windows 7 system all Line 6 devices are supported.

The cool thing with the Line 6 devices is you can play with amp models and effects, but record a dry signal. Then in your DAW you can tweak your settings. This lets you try out different amps and effects from one recording session.

I had it running on 64 bit Windows 7 and it worked well, but I went back to 32 bit to handle some of the virtual instruments that didn't run well with 64 bit.

I'm curious about your enthusiasm for your Dell laptop. Can you give me some information on the type/spec as I'm looking at Dell for a new laptop at the moment, and the only reviews I can find are pretty thin. I would appreciate it.

I bought 5 Dell Latitudes which are the biggest baddest Business Laptaps they have. This is for my business. After a couple days of use I sent this to my IT guys as a thankyou for them sourcing such a great machine:

Best Laptop I have ever seen

I travel the world with my laptop so it is important to my business. These all have i7 processors with 8 GRam and 128 SSD boot drives. Then in the internal bay you can place a additional HD (600G?), or a DVD/CD. I opted for the additional HD as I also use this work machine for play (when you are senior guy in the company you can get away with that). I put BIAB on the SSD and all RT/RD on the module HD. This laptop has the same processor as my home DAW and is a joy to work with.

Honestly don't know what we paid for each, somewhere around $2,000 which is pricy for a home user. Remember the businesss line of Dell makes machines which are more rugged than the Home Market division. Ohterwise, the video says it all.

Thanks Jazzmandan, I've got my eye on a Vostro 17" with corei7 2630QM Prozessor 4x 2,0 GHz and 8Gig and 500gig 7200rpm drive. Seems to be a bargain at about 900 euros.

If you can afford a still-overpriced SSD, it can be very much the present. I have an SSD boot drive in each of my computers and I would never go back.

I'm not sure Line 6 would want this as a demo song... but this was recorded with the UX8 in a few passes and I never really did much for mastering. The guitar is a $99 reproduction Ernie Ball. Drums are a DTExpress IV. And yes I have copyright, this was basically me and a work buddy just jamming.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
