Hi Guys
After 50 years of playing Shadows style music I think I need a change.
I have always admired Chet Atkins style of playing,and while I don't aspire
to be as good as he was,I would like to learn the basics.
Question is,could someone recommend me a Tutorial DVD that would point me in the
right direction,preferably one that's available in the UK.

Alan, I learned from Mark Hanson's "The Art of Solo Fingerpicking", a book and CD package. I still hold it in very high esteem after many years, and highly recommend it. Available on Amazon (at least here in USA) http://www.amazon.com/Art-Solo-Fingerpic...4603&sr=1-4This would get you the basics of this style of playing, and you'd be able to take on some of Chet's work after this one. Here are 2 of my favorite sites on the net for Fingerstyle lessons..... This first one is GREAT to start with..... http://www.guitarnick.com/Just click on Fingerstyle & have fun! He even has an "Learn Fingerstyle in 8 Lessons" section that starts at the very beginning. The next one is a little more advanced, but has some great tunes to play.... http://www.ericlugosch.com/lessonhome.htmlBoth of them are at "our favorite price point"..... And as mentioned above, Mark Hanson's Art of Contemporary Travis Picking and Art of Solo Fingerpicking are great, I started with these and learned a TON, and the skill level increase at a good pace. Plus you are playing actual songs, not just exercises, so it makes learning a TON more fun! Hope this helps!

Many thanks for the links which I have saved in my favourites list.
I do have an Acoustic but I am looking for an Ibanez or a Gretsch G5120 to
progress with my practising.

I was like Alan, never learned to finger pick, I was always a flatpicker. So I decided to buy Scott Groves entire video collection for 49.99 and now I am starting to get the hang of it. I never knew Scott before but he now lives in my home town in Nevada and has played in all the same clubs as I did and even knows some of the same players & club owners I knew when I lived out there. Scott has a huge guitar collection which you can look at on his website, he told me it is his 401K when he retires  .
