The point of the hi and lo pass filters is to clean up the signal. An 'S' can give a pitch to a software program, and so can something ringing in a bass, bumping a mic stand, any extra sound is considered (it would have to be since a violin may need a frequency that contrabass may not) ... An expander may help too, to keep unintentional noise supressed. Depends on the track.
