Surfing around Youtube last night, I stumbled across the below link.

Whatever one's opinion of Liberace is, there is no denying that his talent was exceptional.

If you enjoyed that, which I actually did, check out his rendition of Zez Confrey's Dizzy Fingers.

I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

During the 1950s–1970s Wladziu Valentino Liberace was the highest-paid entertainer in the world.

He led a very interesting musical life.

Those interested can check out the Wikipedia Bio on him, believe it or not there's even more to the story than the rather comprehensive Wikepedia shows.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberace

The kind of thing that can result when only one of two parents imparts the love of music creation coupled with the pursit of excellence to their children.

The one thing I've never understood about Liberace has to do with the backbeat. He apparently did not have it, or at least did not like it enough to pursue it. Always thought that to be a shame, he had the facility to be the next Art Tatum if it was not for that...

My wife and I had the privilege of attending one of his shows in the late seventies. If he'd never sat at the keyboard, but just continued talking and cracking one liners, we would have felt our money was well spent.

There have been many pianists of his caliber, and there will be many more, but he had the very special gift of being an entertainer - one of the all time greats IMO.

And his costumes/capes were a thing to behold.

Truly a fascinating human.

Hi Mac,

Thanks for the link. That was really interesting reading. He certainly put a lot of effort into getting somewhere!

Until you mentioned it, I had never realized that Liberace did not utilize the backbeat. It seems strange to me too that he didn't. I suspect that it probably had something to do with his classical background.

Regards,
Noel
