I was comin, but you et all the chili! So i got real mad and drunk up all da beeer! Then i took a power nap on the couch!

That's right. I forgot that point of the MOTU send all the data from 16 channels down a single cable via firewire.Might just be bogging doen the system.
One track in RB is assigned to the internal soundcard on my lappy to drive my harmonizer. The other tracks are assigned to one of three pairs, panned and out to a HW mixer via a PCMCIA card that is installed into a PCMCIA>Express slot adapter.. Then from the HW mixer the Aux send goes to the in of the PCMCIA card and the last two pairs come back to the mixer AUX return. The PCMCIA card serves as both the bans and the effects processor,ie reverb unit. Then I have a USB interface that is ASIO for my bass.Not the same setup as yours of course but pretty funky and RB just keeps on going without complaint.

I've been doing some reading about this unit. The required PC horsepower is minimal so you should be OK. The one thing I did notice is that it is only 24bit X 44.1/48. In RB have you set the recording properties to what ever you are using in the MOTU? I mention this because I also had issues when playing back /recording files that were not at the native soundcard rate & bit depth .

John, good catch. Mismatch of sample rate can cause unhappy sounds to come forth from audio interfaces!

That is a good catch John, but I checked that.
The one thing I just can't let go of is that nothing is amiss until I connect that second box. Switching them where 1 is 2 and 2 is 1..... changing ports on the card...... no matter what combination of variables I have, as soon as I hit play, I get that exact memory address access violation error. It if was a bitrate mismatch, troubleshooting logic says it would not work correctly with one or two connected. I don't change the bitrate when I connect the second unit.
I decided today I am going to build another computer and see what happens. I can always use another PC....

It sounds like Christmas is this Sunday here. The last kid (daughter) who's 21, leaves for 2 years in England. (Work Visa) I hear they have no work. She had a good 12 buck an hour job here she liked. No boyfriend I guess.

Actually what is needed is a button that says, Where am I at? It then displays the same stuff as going to C:\dxdiag (the first screen), and all the 'factory settings' in a column and all the current settings in another. That we we can scan that and go WTF is wrong with this picture, and talk on the same level. Despite being on the same level we know that someone will decide that we have too much bass and they will fish for something else and then the treble will go with the hook, and the leader will decide it should be done in rewire, and next thing you know our fishing expedition turns into way too much fun for our spouses, female friends and sisters to comprehend.
I wish you could hop over the lake. The fresh perch is served in restaurants just south of me on Lake Erie and it's first class stuff. A dozen or so boats run in and out of the harbour until it freezes up. (that's not soon this year)

Ribs are in summer. I make a MEAN sauce. This was for a company food day, and I just "sampled" two of the cookies. They are awesome.
If I hopped over the lake, Sammy's Souvlaki would have to be on the agenda!!

I have Sammy's recipe, as close as it comes.
Dice pork shoulder into 1" cubes.
In a 5 gal plastic pail put 1/2 a pail of pork cubes, 5 onions diced coarse, handful of coarse ground pepper, 3 of coarse sea salt, 10 cloves of garlic diced coarse, cover almost with oil, 3 bottles of flat cheap beer, greek oregeno, a couple of handfuls of rosemary. Make sure it's covered and kept cold, leave for 3 or 4 days. Skewer and cook over high heat turning once in a while.
I've seen 3 different Greek friends of mine make this and it's almost the same, slight variations in seasoning. Some use powdered garlic and onion.
In truth they say that the souvlaki made at home is cut smaller and is usually lamb.
Sammy sells the bulk of his stuff at bar closing to university students. A friend who worked there told me 800 to 1000 a night on Friday and Saturday, per location (3) downtown. 50% to the underground cash economy.
I can't eat that unless I bring it home and cut it up. My mouth won't open more than 3/4 of an inch so big burgers, and rolled up pita are out. I even eat a sausage on a bun at an angle, or with the knife and fork.
My kids still say I have a big mouth.

The friend I visited there once sentme an email saying "On such and such day at exactly 12:30pm look at the webcam at Sammyt's Souvlaki." And when I did, there was Julie holding a big sign that said HI EDDIE. Somewhere I may still have that screen dump I took of that. She was a sweetie. Long since moved back to Quebec. Great gal!!

Well, everything works now as long as I don't plug in both MOTUs.
It took some thinking and planning for wiring the patch bay, but essentially I wired things to go from any "here" to any "where".
Reader's Digest version is that I create the song on computer 1 in Real Band which is fed by the Mackie mixer for supporting instruments and vocals. When that is done I move the file to computer 2. There I assign the tracks to MOTU outs. That MOTU box is patched to 8 channels on the Mackie. That Mackie is fed back to computer 1 running Adobe Audition (my favorite software to print to) where I record it.
The patch bay also runs to and from the M-Audio interface that is on computer 1. That can be patched to either mixer, but it pretty much stays patched to the Peavey sub mixer which does nothing more than feed the house so I can hear in the room. Previously I had issues using the Mackie to add additional instruments because it was also re-recording the entire mix due to the way it was all pathed.
The Mackie also has 3 Alesis Midiverb 2 effects bussed on three of the aux sends so if I choose to I can assign different reverbs to different instruments. Maybe one for drums, another for vocals, a third for anything else....
It probably sounds more convoluted than it would be if you saw it, and I don't know how I would take pictures of "logic". Pictures would just show all the hardware. The patch bay is the key.
Bottom line is that the pretty green lights flash on the MOTU as data passes through them, which makes the pretty green L&R lights flash on the Mackie, which makes the pretty green lights on the M-Audio interace flash, which gives me squiggly line waveforms in the Adobe Audition, all coming from the pretty wave forms in the Real Band software.
Now, as to why that second MOTU freaks Real Band out, I still have no clue. And seeing as I rarely exceed 8 tracks (and when I do, I can share the tracks because if I get to that many tracks it is because there are either extra harmony tracks, extra drum fills, 2 instruments trading solos, etc...) I no longer care that the second box doesn't work. I will just not use the second box and maybe sell it off. Or keep it as a spare.

One last thought. As I mentioned in another of your threads RB only has 16 slots. Your 2 MOTUs take 16 slots So by chance is there an internal card taking up one of these slots so that when you add the other MOTU there's no place for it? It may show but who knows.

Where are you talking "slots" John? In the audio settings where you set outputs? The MOTUs show up as PCI2048 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8. When I add the second it says PCI2048(1) and PCI2048(2) and then the 1-2, etc.... so if that is what you mean by slots, it never gets beyond 8 entries.
What has me pulling hair is that it sees both, accepts both as valid (deduced by the fact that it accepts the setup of both), andthen dies when I hit play. Just so strange. I would think that if Real Band had an issue with me using both that it wouldn't allow me to set them up. It would fail when I set the output ports with some kinds of "not so fast, buddy..." message.
Really a puzzler.

Never mind. 16 pairs. You're only using 8 pairs with both.
Have you tried both units with another program? Another little guess.One unit gets it's clock from the internal clock. Is a connection required between units to pass the clock on to the second unit?
