Hi Walt,I am a Canon & Sharp copier tech and I do not work on these small inkjet printers so my advice is limited here. You are right that it is a paper jam which Canon support says this. "If paper has jammed in the machine, clear the jam, reload the paper in the machine correctly and then press the Black or Color button." Here are something I would do: Turn the power off to the printer and turn back on. Is the the error still present? If so then there is a paper detect sensor that is still actuated and would usually be at the registration near where the print head goes across the paper. Most small inkjet printers only have one sensor as their paper path is very short. However getting to this sensor can be a bear sometimes. If after resetting the power and there is no error but jams as soon as you try to print means other problems. Also if you have not tried Canon's support you might email them and see what advice they have. Brian

Brian, Thanks for the reply. I looked for the paper sensor, and not being a techie, I have no idea what I'm looking for, can you give me a hint as to what it's physical appearance may be.??? I tried the unplug/plug thing without any success. Also I tried to find a direct link to Cannon Tech but all I get is 3rd. party techies. Thanks again, Walt

About 2 years ago an epson print I liked was on promo for 24.99. It usually was 79.00 or something. Of course they put 1/2 size printer cartridges. Well print about 2 pages a week. I bought 3. The set of cartridges for them ran 80.00 bucks. There is a place to donate used equipment that needs a tune-up. Who knows who gets the stuff. I took one printer with empty cartridges in. Guy phones me 3 days later to tell me thanks for the printer it worked ok on new cartridges. LOL. I said thanks.
I only need them to print off lead sheets for my wife really. We often have 2 copies of the same fake book so we can 'play along', but sometimes it's too small. My wife has perfect vision, but it's way easier if it's 3 times as big. Just don't say she needs glasses to read. I learned that chill the hard way. (She stares at me, again, lol)

John, I bought this one at a garage sale for 10 bucks. The owner pluged it in and printed a very light photo, he said he hasn't run it in 2 years. we ran the cleaning tools but didn't do any good. I bought 2 inks at BB for 29 bucks, so I'm h opeing I can get it going. BB said as long as it's within a few ays of purchase and have all packaging and receipt they will take them back...! Walt

Walt usually these type of sensors have a black plastic lever called a actuator with a spring on it. When the paper passes it over it one end of the actuator blocks a photo interupter which signals the processor the paper is present. When the paper goes past the sensor actuator the return spring forces the actuator lever to return to its home position and the photot interupter is now unblocked. If you do a search on google for a image of a paper sensor actuator you will see the various types and what they look like. Remember these things are black and hard to see in there!!! Anyway just make sure it is not blocked and can move freely and not hung up. Sorry to say most of them small printers are not worth the cost of repair. Brian
