Oh man, Tommy. That would be a train wreck alright. I was sitting at home one day maybe 25 years ago and heard it on the radio and went to my synth and started working it out by ear. Wasn't easy but after a couple of days sitting down here and there I got it. I still have the Live At Carnegie Hall lp that has him doing it at a much faster tempo than the original recording. I had to dig that album out and play it over and over to get the bridge. I remember an interview with Joe Morello saying Dave caught them completely by surprise with that tempo and he had a bad moment gathering himself.

That tune has become such a chestnut now. I've heard probably several dozen versions of it on jazz stations over the years. The most interesting one was done by a string quartet. That same string quartet also did Pick Up The Pieces. It was great that they managed to pull it off. It's a regular tune for me to this day and people sit up and listen to it.
