I have just downloaded the 2012 version of BiaB. I have been a user for many years (around 9000 tiles) and felt as I had a new PS I might as well upgrade. The new version is very good, but I have a HUGE problem. If I start BiaB up I have to disable Anit Virus Guard, otherwise it deletes BBW.exe, and a bunch of other stuff. It takes me around 20mins to rebuild the song list. This didn't happen with my old version 12. I have tried telling anti virus guard to ignore the .exe programs associated with Biab and even the whole directory to no avail. Does anyone out there have a fix for this. IF you are thinking of upgrading, I would hold off until this is fixed. For the time being I'm going to reinstall version 12. Sob.
Same with real band.

Hi,
Probably not much help but just to say I am running biab 2012 with AVG as I have always done and am not getting that problem. Maybe try running biab as administrtor see if it helps.

Hi Tim,

That's a problem that I've never read about since joining these forums.

I suggest that you contact support@pgmusic.com and get their assistance. They would have a number of ideas to try.

Regards,
Noel

I for one am holding off upgrading on your advice. I have not had a problem. Wait, that's your advice on your first post.

Normally people say hi, and I'm excited.

I'm confused.

Easily.

I'm running AVG as well. This is on the machine described below I got last April. I never changed or set anything with my admin settings, Biab or AVG. Everything just works fine, I don't even need to disable it for recording. Are you a tweaker type, do you go into various settings and experiment a lot? If so, put everything back to it's defaults or unstall AVG then reinstall it.

Avast! ?
Free and reliable here. If so many others don't have the issue though, it may be worth looking into settings on AVG.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Yupp I spent most of yesterday checking through all the AVG settings and trying to understand what was happening.

OK here is what I managed to work out. There are two componants of AVG that cause this error. One is the Firewall, and the second is the Identity protection. I have disabled these and actually had it running for about half an hour now. I'll update if it occurs again. So anyone know why identity protection is causing a problem? What is BiaB doing that we should know about?

Re earlier post. The firewall seems to be OK, I now have BiaB running after I have disabled Identity protection. I have left the anti virus pointing to BB folder and realband. Now I want to know why IP is causing the problem. Whatis it in Biab that identity protection does not like?

I had the identical problem with AVG and the Strat-O-Matic hockey game. There is a place in AVG where you can tell it to ignore BiaB and RB but it’s been so long that I have forgotten where it is. Check out your preferences. But be forewarned, every time I updated the game I had to re-instruct AVG to ignore it again. I just gave up and went to Microsoft’s Essential and I have had no problems since.

Good luck.

Life is short so make sure you spend as much time as possible on the Internet arguing with strangers.

Tim,

I use Avast! (there's a free version) as my antivirus software. A large number of people on here have also recommend Microsoft Essentials (which is free for legitimate users of Windows).

Noel

Thanks for the replies. FYI To tell AVG to ignore programs it's under advanced settings. I did that at the get go, and it made no difference as this controls only Anti Virus. I think I will be investigating Avast on your recommendations, I notice it's the second largest free download on a couple of sites after AVG. Paradoxically if I were to use the free version I would not of had the problem. I am a registered user of XP, but I distrust anything coming out of Microsoft after an update which as far as I could see just disablebd the ability I had to burn copy cds for my car, and installed more snoopware.

Uh oh do I spy another paranoid "Microsoft is out to rule the world and enslave us all", type? Nothing wrong with Mr. Softee. I'm not an apologist for MS, I hate their so called help files especially for Word but you really must follow their recommendations and do all the updates. If you can't burn CD's for your car there's tons of third party software that does it perfectly including Real Band.

Everything is fine. I ask you the same question I ask anybody who has a chronic problem that nobody else seems to have. Think about it, like the song says "It's Gotta Be You..." I've used MSE for two years now along with AVG on two different machines. Everything is fine. Perhaps if you haven't done all the routine MS updates that could be a contributing factor here? Not saying it is, I certainly don't know for a fact but it could be.

You really should post the details of your system when asking for help with something like this. Especially the OS and latest service pack. For all we know it could be an old PIII with 256k of ram or a brand new $2,500 i7 with 24 gigs of ram.

thanks for the thoughts, however I have found the problem. It's Identity protection from AVG. So it's not me it's either AVG being over zealous, or PG making a bad call or least likely, PG having malware embedded in the download. And if you really are happy with Micropoo I feel your standards are somewhat low.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
