I was resigned to buying a replacement Amp but decided to check out once again all the electrical connections I could access. The Device Manager advised that the Drivers were Ok - the Soundcard checked out as OK using a set of headphones which left the Amp/Woofer box. There was no power into the Amp which moved the attention to the large PSU/Transformer. This is a sealed unit and, therefore, I was left with the mains plug as the final check.

This mains plug was plugged in to a board at the back of my work station and required much moving of equipment and cables to reach. Finally, I dismantled the plug and checked all the connections, used a little WD40, and checked the fuse with a meter. I was disappointed that there was nothing obviously wrong, but put it all together and plugged it back into the board. Re-booted the computer and there was SOUND.

Looking back, I remember a number of occasions in the past few months when the drivers appeared to have been knocked out and I had to reboot the computer to bring them back on line. Perhaps, I have laid one ghost to rest.
