My wife and I play duets at churches, retirement homes, etc.. We are using a Roland cm-30 monitor. Sometimes we have to mic her flute For that we use an AKG sure mic. So far this Roland has worked quite well as to power.
In many places, the power cords are a bit of a hassle. I know that Roland and others make battrey powered amps. My question is, are any of you using a battery powered amp? If so, what kind is it? Is it adequate? Would you recommend it for performances?
I realize that many amps in this category are only good to practice with. Thanks for any info.

I have a Roland micro Cube, and it is very cool. Not a super powerful deal, but for a clean sound it would work great. I actually bought it when my daughter got married, and we used it as a PA for the ceremony. For a little bit more power look at the crate taxi series. All together now!! http://www.musiciansfriend.com/solid-sta...atId=site1AQADC

Thanks for the tips. I'm leaning toward the Roland Micro Cube for the features and price. Got a little more research to do, but at least I've got a direction to go in. Carvin is beyond my budget right now.

A Roland Micro Cube is all I play through! It also is a great recording amp, i.e. the line out sounds exactly line what you hear through the speaker.
Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer. It's called the Heineken Maneuver.

Some folks have been raving about the Roland BA-330 (stereo, works on batteries).
But the price is substantial, especially compared to the little Cube.
Any user? Comments?

Do you use yours on gigs? I'm thinking that, if I need more power sometimes, I can use my CM30

Personally my giging days are over; I don’t need the hassle anymore But two of my friends use the Micro Cube on their gigs. Each plays in a different country and western band and both play in small venues. The cube has enough power for that. It will not do in large venues and/or heavy metal/hard rock bands though, you need a much larger amp for that. On occasion I do jam with groups that use acoustic instruments, piano, sax, guitars, drums, and electric bass and guitars but a lot of volume is not needed. But the Cube is quite loud. If you can you should try one out.

LOVE my Micro-Cube. Great battery life, sound and portability. Sound great with my Ketron SD-4 and WX-7.

I like the taxi for the reason that you can plug a guitar and a mike into them at the same time. The micro cube is great if all you want to do is amp one item. The taxi 15 is under $200, very versatile.

The Micro Cube can handle both a mike and input simultaneously. It does not give phantom power to condensers (which baffles me.) The mike input is a combo XLR / Phono so could also handle a keyboard and guitar together.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/roland-micro-cube-combo-ampPJ, don't know what amp you are looking at, but the micro cube has only one input, a 1/4 inch one. So if you want to add two you have to use a small mixer or something. Look at the 5th picture down the row and you can see the top

There is an ¼ inch aux input on the back of the Micro Cube that will accept a mic so you can play and sing simultaneously. However I would not consider this the amp’s strong point. It is a great guitar amp but if you want to sing into it you should get two and have one dedicated to the vocals.
Just my two cents.

Hi Gents. I got a little confused reading some of these posts so I went back and looked at close up pics of the top and back of the Micro Cube. What I see is a 1/4" jack on the top w/selector knob showing "mic" as a choice. On the back, I see "aux input" with 1/4" & 1/8" jack inputs. We have an AKG condenser C1000S mic that uses a 1/4" jack. We also use an mp3 player 1/8" jack. There is no phantom power for this mic but it has a 9v battery in the mic. Actually, it works very nice for my wife's flute. Looks to me like the Micro Cube will work for our setup needs. I may also use it for a uke on occasion. If we have a larger venue, we can use our CM-30. Thanks again for your help.
