I was wondering if any of you use Jamstix in your recordings? For example, BIAB has a lot of great styles that are written in MIDI. The drums naturally sound like the kit you heard back in the 80's. Drives me nuts! The RealTracks are great. But, there are just more styles written in MIDI than there are in RealTracks.

Enter Jamstix. I have been reworking my old BIAB tracks to include the new "real' drums and percussion tracks. Once I get the final remixes I will post them here. What I also like about Jamstix is that they have a fairly active discussion board there too. (I use this product as my benchmark when shopping.) I asked a question about their demo and a moderator replied within an hour.

I also used Cakewalk's Session Drummer. But, it lacks the dynamic qualities Jamstix has developed.

For those country songwriters here, what is cool about this particular VSTi is that it will follow your MIDI drum track verbatim only replacing the MIDI sounds with real drum sounds.

Here is their website if you had not heard of them: http://rayzoon.com/.

Cheers,
RickeG

If you just want a drum sample player there are also some free ones out there. DR-005 is one that plays real drum 'sounds' as samples from MIDI ..
However Jamstix does come with some nice sounding drum kits all ready to go. That is its biggest feature in my eyes.

Like your avatar; I've got one of those pedals on the pedal shelf here..

Hey rharv,

Yeah, now toting a POD XT Live, I recall the stompbox days and have this BOSS OD along with the Tube Screamer, and one called, Real Tube. It actually is a stomp box with a real 12AX7 tube in it. Today, I just like the idea of having a single plug in and run unit.

As for the other drum synths out there, I have been through a few of them. The last one I had was Session Drummer that came with Sonar. But, each of these just could not scratch the itch for me. Though Jamstix does provide an easy note for note translation of MIDI notes, it does extend to include the ability to set up a live drummer and jam with you. It's pretty cool.

Cheers,
RickeG

I use Jamstix on every song that i don't use RealDrums. Any midi drum track gets Jamstix. I am sad that BiaB,RB, and PTs does not allow Jamstix to tempo lock, but as a simple drum VSTi it is great.

Another added benefit to jamstix over some of the other VSTi's out there is that the forum is very helpful, and the company owner is active. Much like here.
