Sorry for such a simple question.. I've had some issues with Realband.. I think it may be because i don't remember how I set it up initially. I'm running realband 2009.5 on windows Vista

How do I restore it to factory settings.

Also, if I want to record a mic line in.. how do I tell it what mic I'm using and adust the input levels.

thanks in Advance

Kirby.

Actually not a menu command for it. What you have to do is rename the file called RB.ini to RB.old and restart RB. There is another file or two that can be done over as well but I am not on my music computers right now.

These are the two files you need to delete or rename.
REALBAND.INI. This file contains most of the global RealBand settings, especially the settings in the Options | Preferences and Options | MIDI Devices dialogs. It also has a list of the most recently accessed song files.

RB.CFG. This file contains information about your sound card
The two files above contain most of your program settings; it is usually only necessary to delete those two files.

Maybe a Restore To Factory Settings button or command should be included in the next update as this question does come up from time to time.
Will put in Wishlist.

Does anybody else find it odd that this is required so often? The idea of customizable software is to customize it. EVERY troubleshooting question draws at least 94 responses saying "reset to default and reboot the computer". (That is the technician's white flag of surrender." And, no, if I wanted "default" I wouldn't be customizing, and I am pretty tired of having to go through 18 steps of getting back to my version of customized.

There are times, and in the OP's case, it may be that he/we simply "over customized" i.e., made complex or conflicting settings between all the options or he/we are new users and simply get lost. They/we changed stuff but not sure what or why. In those cases most of us want a way to start back at square one. It may have NOTHING to do with bad design or technical issues.

Not every user of a piece of SW is a power user and I have yet to see SW, ANY SW from ANY mfg. that was first time user friendly - so yes the user may need to reset. Let us change objects here, even HW synths have a similar question as one of the most frequent questions: "where is the factory reset button/function or key strokes" and more than once I was really glad every single synth I own had one of those features! So then why is it so bad to want this in all my SW applications as well?

I agree that factory resets (SW or HW) should NOT be the panacea, or an out, for poor coding - but to be fair I don't think that's what is going on in here.

Have you ever had that hung midi note? Thankfully they have that panic button or midi reset on some software.

I retain a copy of the above two files and Patches.ini in the Root directory so that I can RESTORE quickly without going through each option.
