There are times, and in the OP's case, it may be that he/we simply "over customized" i.e., made complex or conflicting settings between all the options or he/we are new users and simply get lost. They/we changed stuff but not sure what or why. In those cases most of us want a way to start back at square one. It may have NOTHING to do with bad design or technical issues.

Not every user of a piece of SW is a power user and I have yet to see SW, ANY SW from ANY mfg. that was first time user friendly - so yes the user may need to reset. Let us change objects here, even HW synths have a similar question as one of the most frequent questions: "where is the factory reset button/function or key strokes" and more than once I was really glad every single synth I own had one of those features! So then why is it so bad to want this in all my SW applications as well?

I agree that factory resets (SW or HW) should NOT be the panacea, or an out, for poor coding - but to be fair I don't think that's what is going on in here.
