So for those of you who use harmonizing plugins to modify clean vocals, what are the best you've found so far? Carkins

For Joe V,
If you want, the TC in RB will allow the parts to be placed on separate channels. Mute the others and record one harmony at a time while listening to the un-muted harmony in your headphones. You will be 100% more satisfied with the end results. It takes a few minutes to sing each harmony part, but nothing beats real harmonies in a recording, IMO.
Well worth the time to sing them properly.

Hasn't this tread already concluded there are no "best" harmonizing plugins! Once you've gone to a hardward vocal harmonizer there is nothing to go back to.

According to Pat Mar's post there may be some decent modules. Just curious to see if he found one he likes. I did order a VLT today but always like to hear all the opinions. Have a good one Carkins

Thanks, only downside may be a study linking it to MPD, Multiple Personality Disorders. But I hear they coexist in perfect harmony, so looking forward to it!

I have written down a couple of cheat-sheets on how to configure with BIAB. Give a hollar when you get it if you get stuck. Since I use BIAB with and without the VLT - and th eVLT with and without BIAB - I have to have a way of reminding myself how to configure them both to play together.

Thanks, will be sure to do that if I run into trouble. Usually do my vocals in Realband. Any differences in setup between the two programs?
Thanks to all for the good info. Carkins

What i do is similar to what John (Silvertones) does. I sing the lead vocal, and the setup my harmonizer to eliminate the lead vocal and sing it a again this time in a simple straight manner, no twists and turn so to speak. I usually just use 1 voice at a time, and record that to a a separate track. I might record a 5th up, and then an octave up or down, or a 3rd down. I do a little gender tweaking on each track so it does not sound like me singing every track.
I might then add another track of simple oohs and aahs in some places, add back in the lead voice, and setting the TC hardware unit up to do maybe three voices a 3rd, 5th, and the lead on the root of the chord. I might even add a second track of ohhs and aahs blended in not using the TC unit.

"best" is a function of need, and your needs may not be the same as mine.
After evaluating Melodyne, Izotope Nectar, Autotune Evo plus a few freebies, the only one that met my key criteria was Melodyne Editor 2.0 . I chose Melodyne because: 1) it does more than pitch correction (also helps timing, length of note, formant, and more) 2) it works in the same way as moving MIDI notes around, and I already understand that 3) it gives me total control of which notes to move, how much, and whether to move them at all 4) the version I bought works with more notes at a time, chordal stuff not just linear melodies. 5) it does not add any effects 6) it does not work as a plugin with PGMusic products, but it does with many other music products 7) it doesn't add harmonies directly... but you can copy your melody track and drag the notes to a harmonic position, which is tedious but it gives you total control of the harmony.
Most of the other products either did or didn't pitch correct, and didn't give me note by note control. Some added very cool effects such as Nectar.... Ultimately I wasn't looking for pitch correction as much as I was looking for a great cleanup tool that can fix a variety of audio problems (mostly timing) without forcing me to redo the track.
Regarding hardware, I have two TC HElicon Voiceworks rack mounted units. I like this unit for a variety of reasons. It's more complicated to use than some of the others, but it also provides more control and more options. That's important to me. You can get these on Ebay for less than the price of the newer units... which hardware device to get depends on how much of a learning curve you are willing to endure, and whether you want to use MIDI to control it or a stomp box.

I use mine for live playing mostly. I really don't do much recording. I've learned that when the harmony part is ready to be sung live pay attention to how you sing. Ease off a bit, leave out the inflexions etc. & even tame the range of the melody so that the harmony is not as high in pitch.Or do the 5 below. Takes time to work with these units but the outcome is worth it.
